Health and Welfare Canada officials in Winnipeg urge Manitoba old age pensioners not yet reapplied for the Guaranteed Income Supplement to do so by March 31 to avoid payment interruption. Over 66,000 applications mailed in January. more than 25,000 have not replied. The program requires annual reapplication due to possible income changes, affecting April payments.

A Manitoba Department of Natural Resources survey shows landowners view hunter trespassing on private land as the main issue. Landowners want stricter enforcement of hunter trespass laws and express concerns over safety, illegal hunting, and Treaty Indian harvest of big game. Habitat loss estimates rise, with 13 percent bush and six percent wetland loss over three years. A steering committee and working group will craft policies and programs, with a public short summary available upon request.
Dr D A Finley’s clinic scored 93.2 percent on a Manitoba Veterinary Services Commission inspection. Commission chairman H H Austman commended the staff for high standards and service to livestock and pet owners. Shoal Lake area residents elected Gary Dunits as Board Chairman with Lillian Richcoon as Secretary Treasurer. The district funds itself through joint RM and village contributions with a matching provincial grant.
Birtle Rossburn Foxwarren defeated Birtle 6-5 in the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association Peewee C final. Lakeside edged Rivers 5-4 in the consolation. Eight teams competed, with the event running from Friday to Sunday. Complete details on page 11.
