G K Beck Martin has been named Advertising Sales Representative by the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association. He brings 25 years in advertising and publishing, with eight years at Wilson Publishing Company, and will provide up to date buying power facts for Canadian towns and townships.
The article extols Canadian Red Cross volunteers, mainly women, as organized neighbors aiding soldiers and civilians. Through sewing, knitting, and other crafts, they produced 39,000,000 comfort and surgical items for the armed forces and hospitals, earning Britain’s warmth from Canadian quilts and promising ongoing aid to liberated nations and children in need.

Word spread that Arthur Andrew was wounded in action on March 3. Alex Leland heads a fundraiser for the Red Cross in Wirdtail district. Mr Kozak conducts a collection in Ite Valley locality.
Mears irs M Kitleras returned home after a holiday with her daughters in Winnipeg and Sudbury. Pte K Bereza spent three weeks with parents before leaving for Ceberne Military Hospital for further medical treatment. Miss Bessie Wilker holidaying to visit her father in Brandon. A Red Cross event will be held at Mears Ukrainian National Home on Saturday March 17, 1945 to support a worthy cause.
Local notes report Pte Fred Halewski on a month's leave from overseas to visit his parents. Mrs Paul Churcmach to Olha for weeks with her parents. Sgt Jim Angus on holiday with sister Mrs Bill Rinr after arriving from overseas. Natalia Mayowski of Chicago visits her Mayowski parents for a month. Viv and Mrs John Germack welcome daughter Orissa Geylene on March 5. Stan Siwack progresses after a recent operation at Sacred Heart Hospital Russell.
Vista reports activity by Pte. Lavin visiting his wife at the McLeod home. T A and W M S meet at Les Hamiltons. First Aid Club session in the school house drew about 20 attendees with a Cat Murry lecture. Red Cross campaign tops and four collectors cited. Two one act plays and musical numbers planned for Vista Hall on March 22 under Vista Ladies Aid. March 20 box social and dance in Culroce School raised 75 dollars. 25 sent to Junior Red Cross and 50 to Vista Red Cross.
Oakburn residents visit families in Dauphin and Tandon. Olga Hrytyak visits her parents Alex and family from Sand Lake. A birth announced at Shoal Lake Hospital for Feb 27. Hockey wins for Oakburn boys over Sandy Lake 5 2 while February March events include fund drives and whist. Duncan Menzies, pioneer Oakburn settler, dies aged 88 in Spirit River Alberta. Funeral held in Gordondale with services in 1945.
Ptevan Stitt of Fort Osborne Barracks arrives home on leave. Mr and Mrs Gordon Taylor and others traveled to Winnipeg. Live Stock to be shipped from Rossburn and Birdtail on March 19. Dr Sherman of Ancusville visited town. Pte Frank Callas left for Sussex NB awaiting embarkation. A new house purchase completed by Mr and Mrs Walter Armstrong from Mrs Peden. Mr Earle Taylor ill and operated on for penicitis. John Collins injured his arm at Gorden Taylors. Cpl T Mitchell wounded in action had left leg amputated at the hip. A dance will be held March 23 in the town hall under Soldiers Aid auspices. Hamiota Orchestra to supply music. Dymetie Yarmey moved his house into town near Rossburn school. James Armstrong led moving crew. Mrs Fred Plante taken to Russell for maternity care. baby boy died en route due to snow drift. Farewell party for Ste Frank Hallas held February 28 with supper and dancing. Musicians N Tryhuick and Mervin Marynuike. Hallas received purse of money. Whist Drive and Dance netted $65 for MedCro st. Returned prisoner of war fundraiser yielded $55. Dune's orchestra played. winners in the whist drive: Ladies Mrs Chas Douglas. Men Mr Jim Armstrong. consolation ladies Mrs J Cormack. other cast members listed. Lindsay presented prizes. Alec Wilson chaired. judges included E C Ficks and B F Parsons. Following show, attendees adjourned to Alec Wilson’s home for lunch.

A large town hall audience praised a high school concert on Tuesday night. The program featured three plays including Ad venture Cones to Madelon with Madelon de Vercherec and Susan, Tie Up and Arms Affair with a hotel mystery and detective duo, and The Valient set in a Warden's office with Taras Shermata as Warden.
The Soldiers Aid group met Monday March 5 in club room A. A quilting session is planned in club room A on Friday March 30. Thirty two parcels will be sent this month to the frontline troops. Appreciation letters were received from Stanley Budzy Gerald Tit and Charlie Glucka.
