Oakburn Bonspiel crowns Mudrey rink in Grand Challenge
The Oakburn Annual Bonspiel held Feb 17 to 29 drew 40 rinks. Final matched Jim Mudrey of Sandy Lake against Tony Kalynovich of Oakburn, Mudrey winning the Grand Challenge. Memorial Trophy honors John W. Smith Q C with presentation by Mrs. Margaret Smith. Prize winners listed for Grand, Citizens and Merchants events. Oakburn Curling Club thanks neighboring clubs and donors for support.

In the Snake Creek League 15 and under playoffs Rossburn Bantam ABs and Birtle Residential School split games. The first at Birtle ended 7-7 with Rossburn tying late after pulling the goalie due to poor ice. The second game in Rossburn saw Rossburn win 11-5 led by Glenn Carson 4 goals and Wilfred Astakeesic 3. Eight penalties were called, eight on Birtle. Pee-Wee tournament set for Saturday with Birtle and Rossburn Pee-Wees in action after 1-1 draw last week and a 4-0 win by Birtle over Foxwarren.

The Scouts progress with emergency response training and tenderfoot to Cub tasks. Parents Committee sponsored a Bingo to raise funds for Cub and Troop training. 42 registered boys. fees total 3.00 per boy with 1.50 paid by the group, 63.00 covered by funds. An exhibition hockey game capped the four hour program with Russell Ellis team winning 7-5. pool winnings donated back to the 15 and under team.
