Manitoba Estimates Spark Debate on Costs and Railway Reform

Manitoba legislators heard that administration costs have risen from 17 to 49 million since 1941 and debate touched on liquor laws, civil rights, and a proposed plan to buy Winnipeg Electric. Speakers mostly urged efficiency, with criticism of federal oil policies and calls for road and school improvements. The session adjourned in memory of J. W. Breakey.

John Cormack returned to Rossburn Monday after a Bonspiel in St. Paul Minnesota with George Lauman Roy Dutton and Doug English of Birtle They traveled by car three hours faster than the bus They did not win prizes but enjoyed two Bible based films and a visit with Dr Shaver in Minneapolis They noted cheaper U S hotel meals and a 20c cigarette They saw 76 rinks in the Spiel with Lauman skipping a rink facing teams from St Paul Ft Francis Morden and Madison Wisconsin

Rossburn Folk School Sees Low Attendance Amid Sessions

Nine young people including Leonard Hyra and Evelyn Clunas attended the Rossburn Folk School last week. The program ran February 20 to 27 with Cooperative Principles Farm Problems Unions and Public Speaking topics. Marion Keating directed with Irene Melvin assisting. guest speakers included D L Fletcher P E Burnell and Vincent Poloway. Evening square dancing and social recreation complemented daytime sessions, though overall attendance disappointed organizers.

The Women's World Day of Prayer service at Rossburn Pentecostal Church drew attendees from the United, Presbyterian and Pentecostal churches. Miss Gladys Lemmon spoke on the theme Christ Our Hope, with music from Miss Dolly Miller and leadership by Mrs. R. Barclay.

Oakburn edged Rossburn 3-2 at Rossburn Memorial Arena in a cold night Pee Wee game. Mervin Michalyshyn scored the winner in the last ten seconds as Oakburn's Lazaruk Hersak and Michalyshyn scored, while Stitt Mamalyga Stitt and others added for Rossburn.

Intermediates Triumph 3-2 Over Oakburn Juveniles

Rossburn Intermediates beat Oakburn Juveniles 3-2 in a fast skating Pee Wee clash. Rosnoski opened for Rossburn, Hubert equalized for Oakburn, and Lindsay and Tronrud sealed the win in the final period. Stitt guarded the Rossburn nets in a steady performance.

Rossburn Juveniles Triumph in Overtime Showdown

Rossburn Juveniles opened their home schedule facing Vista. They edged ahead 6-5 in sudden death overtime with Gary Lindsay scoring all six Rossburn goals and the winner after three minutes of overtime amid a strong team effort against a capable Vista squad.

Ladies Win at Binscarth Bonspiel

Two rinks from Rossburn competed in the Ladies Bonspiel at Binscarth on February 27 and 28, finishing first and second in the Secondary event. Winners Pave Cleland Bob Carson Cliff Hamilton and Agnes Mitchell received carving sets after defeating Don Holmes J G Stitt Alex Cleland and J Cormack who earned angora tams and gloves. Twenty six rinks participated.

Red Cross Open Benspiel at Rossburn Curling Club

A Red Cross two event ben spiel will be held on Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 14. Club members are assumed to participate unless notified. Non members may join. Skips and rink draws by lot. Entry fee is one dollar per player, partly a Red Cross donation. Out of town curlers eligible.
