Hospital Aid Society Sponsors Bonspiel and Whist Drive

The Ressburn and District Hospital Aid Society held a Gusth meeting with over 50 attendees on February 27. They reported a bonspiel yielding 1538.63 with 48.63 profit, followed by Court Whist prizes for Mrs. Kachan and Peikoff and consolation prizes for Greta Williamson and Ukrainetz. Lunch and a 20.50 refund were noted. A March meeting will precede a social and a Whist Drive and Dance on March 17 at Town Hall.

Masonic Rites Held for Veteran Editor Herbert Bowley

Masonic service conducted for Herbert J. Bowley longtime editor of Roblin Review and founder of the Binscarth Express died recently. He edited papers in Moose Jaw and Rossburn and later ran a Roblin restaurant before retiring due to ill health. Burial in Roblin Cemetery. Family thanks friends for sympathy and flowers.

Woman named delegate to world Guides conference

Canadian headquarters of the Girl Guides Association announces that Mrs. R. F. T. Greer, Provincial Commissioner, has been appointed as one of two delegates to attend the World Conference of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to be held in July in Oxford England.

Oakburn Curling Rink Wins Lakeview Bonspiel at Sandy Lake

Oakburn team members Matt Shwaluk Bill Raginski Jack Malanchuk and Jack Smith won the Lakeview Motors Event in the Sandy Lake bonspiel earning four gallons of Frost-Cop anti freeze and ten gallons of gasoline for traveling far. Oakburn Senior Hockey beat Sandy Lake Aces 11 to 0 in an away game. Nathan Unickow plans spring department store deliveries in Winnipeg. Duncan McKenzie part of Rossburn Legion bonspiel winning rink earning diamond socks. Geo A Lauman skipped the winning rink. Greek Orthodox Church Whist Drive at Ukrainian National Home on Feb 25 crowned Lecia Maration and Mike Borodie first prizes and Mrs Frank Manulak and Nick Zubrack consolation prizes. Lunch by ladies capped event.

Veteran Charles Thompson Recalls War Medals at Red Cross Home

Charles Thompson an 80 year old veteran recounts his experiences from the South African and First World Wars to Miss Vera Carpenter national director of the Red Cross Arts and Crafts at the Red Chevron soldiers home in Toronto He is among hospitalized veterans who benefit from Red Cross confined veteran services.

Manitoba Power conducts Junior Linemen School in Winnipeg

Thirty one young men from rural districts attend a week long Junior Linemen's School at the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg. W D Farris, Manitoba Power Commission general manager, opens the course under L Playfair and F McNamara. The agenda covers history rate policy and electrical fundamentals with a field trip to Pioneer Electric and a tour of the Canada Building offices.

Junior hockey team suffers 9 to 1 defeat at Oakburn

The Junior hockey squad traveled to Oakburn on Tuesday night and were badly beaten 9 to 1 by the local Junior team. Separately, the Rossburn Bonspiel saw the Grand Aggregate won by the rink consisting of N Strong, A E Chesney, Win Stitt, and Billy Carson.
