The Rossburn Minor Baseball Association notes a short season limits fund raising and relies on donations from businesses and organizations. It reports multiple gifts received to date, with a few gifts still to be collected, and thanks supporters for helping keep baseball entertainment alive for future seasons.
Several carloads from Knox United Church Rossburn attended the Birtle Presbytery rally in Shoal Lake on Sunday evening June 15 to celebrate the United Church of Canada’s 50th anniversary. A pot-luck supper and worship followed with performances by the Minnedosa and Rossburn choirs, Hamiori School Band and other groups. Rev Bob Burton led the service and guest speaker Rev Dr Hartley Harland of Ninette spoke.
Rossburn Merchants opened Oakburn Tournament with a 6-2 victory over Elkhorn. A late rally and a bases loaded, none out triple play by Rivers doomed Rossburn to an 8-4 loss. The Merchants also split two games with Waywayseepakco.
Midget team loses 4-3 at Minnedosa with Allan Sidoryk pitching the full game. Bantam drops 10-8 at Russell with Kevin Hedley and Ray Zegalski handling pitching. Beaver division falls 27-16 at Birtle, their first defeat. Mosquito division starts 17-5 at Shoal Lake for their first loss. Standings: Midget 0-3 Bantam 1-1 Beaver 2-1 Mosquito 3-1.
The Birtle United Church Presbytery held its June 10 meeting in Rossburn with clergy and lay representatives from all pastoral charges for a day of worship and business. The Rossburn U C W served tea coffee and cookies throughout the day.
John Mitchell, Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Rossburn, announced Monday evening that he has resigned effective immediately due to administration problems. He served as Reeve since 1967, and the move will likely lead to a by election.
Rossburn Library shelves a mix of non fiction and large print titles including The Wonderful World of Weddings and The Pearl with several large print editions. Notable works listed include A Jest of God The Stone Angel The Desert Generals and The Drift Fence. Also announced are films for children with Friday June 20 canceled story time.
Village of Rossburn council meets at 7 30 p m with Mayor Louis Kurchaba and councillors approving May minutes, selling Lot 3 Plan 439 to Monarch Woodworks for 700 dollars, pursuing railway abandonment objections, accepting fire school and utility reports, passing Budget By Law 497, authorizing By Law 498 with suspension, addressing tax sale title issues with Lena Pradhnuk, approving building permits, and adjourning to July 10 at 7 30 p m.
About 20 young ball players attended a baseball clinic at the Collegiate this past Saturday run by Dave Rottman of the Dauphin Redbirds. Morning films and demonstrations led to afternoon field practice with pitching machines and separate workouts for pitchers infielders and outfielders. Rottman also led a Monday night clinic with the fastball teams focusing on batting practice and a film of the 1970 World Series.
