Rural Council Meeting Addresses Schools And Roads
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met in the council chambers with Reeve Alex Cleland and four councillors present. Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated by Varish Family
Mr. and Mrs. Z Varish of Oakburn observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a belated dinner at the Peleshok farm in Strathclair on June 12. Attending were numerous relatives including Bill and Joe Yarish, Nick Yarish, Max Melnyk and others from Oakburn Brandon Winnipeg and Montreal. Nick Yarish thanked the parents, John Peleshok spoke of their hardships, and congratulatory messages came from John Diefenbaker and Tony Bernot. The couple received a plate glass mirror, an electric lawn mower, and a $25 cheque. they have four sons, four daughters, and 13 grandchildren, with one daughter Mary having died in 1960.

United Church Women Meet
The Jude meeting of the United Church Women was held in the church annex with Mrs. Netta Smith in the chair. Devotions led by Mrs. May Lawless and Mrs. Bertha Johnston. No finances report due to absent treasurer. Candy gift to Mrs. Stitt Sr. in hospital noted. Action on church picture plates payment, and sending a coffee maker and dish towels to the Agricultural Society for Saturday. A float for Saturday was planned.

Waterworks Opening and Sports Day in Rossburn
The official opening of the Waterworks system in Rossburn coincided with 50 years of incorporation and the annual Lions Club Sports Day on Saturday June 13. A crowd gathered at the pumping station site and along the parade route despite cool skies. Premier Roblin cut the ribbon as the Strathclair Band played O Canada.

Grandmother's Tea Honored At Rossburn Institute Event
Rossburn Women's Institute hosted its annual Grandmother's Tea on Wednesday afternoon. Forty ladies from Vista and Birdtail attended a program of songs readings talks and poems with prizes for descendants distant from home and five generation family status. A lunch followed with several hostesses and a two minute silence observed for departed members.
