Manitoba’s Modern Medical Centre Seeks Million More
Public contributions of one million dollars are still needed to fund Manitoba’s modern medical complex. The Joint Hospital Building Fund has two million raised of a three million goal, with five million in government grants. A provincial committee led by W. J. Parker seeks rural donations to meet a 250 thousand target, to expand Children’s and General Hospitals which suffer severe overcrowding and require advanced facilities for urban and rural patients. The District Meeting of the Canadian Legion met in Inglis on Thursday June 12 with four Rossburn Branch members F Hodgkinson O McFeeters H Middlemass and E Harris present. District Representative G A Lauman and Provincial Command Representative R W Blackwell spoke and several resolutions were sent to the Provincial Convention. Lauman was re‑elected for two more years. Lunch was provided by the Inglis Ladies Auxiliary.

We Have Some Athletes Too! Track Meet Rained Out
The North-Western Track and Field Meet at Hamiota was washed out on May 30 and June 3, preventing district winners this year. Students from Rossburn Oakburn and Hamiota competed in Brandon at the Provincial Track and Field Meet on June 13, earning crests. Rossburn’s Zane Luhowy finished second in Primary High Jump and Crest Panchuk placed third in Junior 100 yds.

Plans Set for MFAC Convention at Brandon Manitoba
More than 300 delegates from across Manitoba will gather at the Prince Edward Hotel Brandon June 23 to 25 for the MFAC Annual Provincial Convention. The meeting will review the Provincial Directors Annual Report debate policy resolutions and discuss the International Wheat Agreement livestock marketing and MFAC re organization. R S Staples President Cooperative Union of Canada will speak at the June 24 banquet followed by a social and variety program.

Graduation Exercises at Oakburn High School Banquet
A large crowd attended Oakburn High School graduation at the Ukrainian National Home on Thursday May 28. A banquet for graduates and parents followed at 6 30 p m with graduates, teachers, and school board members present. Faculty and students received diplomas as Mr Steve Matiatios and Mrs Stanley Antonation presented awards and salutations.

Emigrants Reach Canada as Holz Family Completes Resettlement
Alexander Holz is the 30 000th immigrant registered through the Canadian Christian Council for Resettlement of Refugees. He and his wife and five children disembarked from the Beaverbrae at Quebec City after a transatlantic voyage from Germany. They joined about 800 others en route to Coal dale Alberta, with a happy meeting in Winnipeg where Elizabeth Eck, Canada’s 10 000th CCCRR arrival, was introduced to Mrs Holt by Rev C Monk.
