Funeral Rites for Mrs John Plant Held in Rossburn

Mrs John Plant is mourned after a sudden May death in Sacred Heart Hospital Russell. Born 1907 in Scotland she moved to Rossburn 1927 married 1931 lived on Glen Elmo farm. Funeral at Rossburn United Church with burial in Rossburn Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Braendle’s Funeral Home arranged.

Bridal Shower Honors Miss Marlene Senko In Angusville

A bridal shower was held at Angusville Hall on Sunday evening June 4 for bride elect Miss Marlene Senko. Guests from Inglis, Rossburn, Oakburn, Russell and surrounding districts attended as 85 ladies signed the shower book.

Local residents Mr and Mrs Ernest Trakalo and family of Winnipeg visited Mrs T Trakalo over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Joe Danyluk and Elsie Bucklaschuk also spent the weekend in Winnipeg and attended the Malarchuk event.

Lawn Party At Oakburn 4-H Club Supports Local Hosts

A lawn party at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Luhowey in Oakburn Manitoba on June 4 featured 4-H girls and leaders. The program included a skit, charades, a sing song, and a film about Aklavik along with Eskimo hand crafts. A pork lunch followed and the group sang For She's A Jolly Good Fellow before thanking the hosts for their hospitality.

Angusville rallied to erase an early deficit and tie the Rossburn Midget team at 11 all in a Monday night game at Angusville. Earlier, Rossburn defeated Foxwarren 13 to 3 behind Clarence Lazaruk's pitching.

Passing of Wasyl Bilanka in Ruthenia District

Wasyl Bilanka, aged 59, resident of Ruthenia District, died May 6 at Birtle Hospital after a short illness. Born in Western Ukraine in 1889, he came to Canada 49 years ago and farmed 9 miles north of Birdtail. Survived by wife Nellie, daughters Annie Horobec Winnipeg Daisy Melnyk Glen Elmo Mary Kondrat Angusville Eva Winnipeg. sons Joe and Bill Winnipeg Matt Ruthenia. 20 grandchildren. Funeral May 9 at 10:00 am at Ruthenia Greek Catholic Church. burial Greek Catholic Cemetery. Prayers May 8 at 8:00 pm. Pallbearers listed. out-of-town mourners noted.

The Birtle Shoal Lake Health Unit Executive Board met May 17 at Birtle. Attendees included Dr Miles as chair and directors Falloon Shipp Newton Antonation Ashcroft plus Health Unit staff. They discussed staff shortages, urged expedited nurse allocation, noted Shellmouth Municipality cannot receive services, and reported on restaurant sanitation and home visiting programs.

8 Lb 2 Oz Pickerel Caught At Fish Lake Sunday

Fish Lake reports strong fishing with Harold Slow catching an 8 pound 2 ounce pickerel at 8 30 pm on Sunday June 4. The 30.5 inch long fish measured 14 1/4 inch in girth and was taken with frog bait. The catch is entered in the provincial Master Angler Award competition.

Parking Rules At Rossburn Game And Fish Meet

An executive meeting at Fish Lake on Tuesday June 6 discussed parking on the beach for fishermen and boaters. A sign bans leaving trailers and cars on the beach with cars to be kept off the beach and access to the docking area kept clear. Trash cans will be placed and litter cleaned. Overnight camping fee is $1 for first night or $2 for a week, with Maron Slow in charge of fees. A Bingo event is planned for Wednesday June 28 with posters to follow. Members urged to check memberships.

Lions Club Holds First Annual Sports Day in Rossburn

Rossburn Lions Club invites the community to a June 24 sports day featuring Senior, 14 & Under, and 12 & Under baseball, men’s fastball, a horseshoes tournament, games of skill, bingo, and a town hall dance with the Gaylords providing music. Proceeds fund a children’s playground.
