Cardinals Bats Clobber Redbirds in Manitoba Opener
Angusville Cardinals beat Dauphin Redbirds 9-5 in Manitoba Senior Baseball League opener. Dauphin led 3-0 after John Bakos homer, but Angusville answered with five runs across innings two and five, including Al Stefanishyn three run shot and Lynn Chuchmuch two run blast. Steve Longo, Glen Katchin and Wayne Chegwin added doubles. Chuchmuch and Stefanishyn drove in three runs each. Bob Chuchmuch earned the win.

Oakburn Receives $2400 Grant For Sports Complex Upgrades
Oakburn grant of 2400 dollars was received by the Rural Municipality of Shoal Lake and forwarded to the Oakburn Sports Complex to aid upgrading life safety measures and general repairs. Harry Graham M.L.A. for Birtle Russell presented the cheque from lotteries revenues under the Sports Facilities 80 program.

Manitoba Marathon enters final entry window in Winnipeg
The third annual Manitoba Marathon remains open for entries with race day set for June 14 at 7:00 A.M. Runners can join distances from two to twenty six miles, with rural participants forming a large share. A runners clinic runs June 13 at 9:00 A.M. at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, followed by a Spaghetti and Beer Night at 7:00 P.M. at the Highlander curling club. Registration continues in person at Viscount Gort Motor Hotel Room 101 through June 13, and information is available by calling 786 8868.

Midgets Fall 5-0 in First Rossburn League Game
