A complete set of aluminium post office boxes has arrived and will be installed in August. The new key type boxes will improve security and appearance. patrons may face temporary relocations in alphabetical order. Existing key holders must turn in keys. refunds issued if already paid. rental continues for new boxes.
The writer challenges Birdtail Subscriber’s call to socializing industry. He argues free enterprise supplies abundant goods and that profits create jobs by placing purchasing power with consumers. He asserts current distribution methods cause strife and urges aligning consumption with production through wages and profits.
This week we publish a day early to escape the grind of paper work. Former editor John Hresavich now co partner in crime takes a short holiday while the team also pauses for a breather after years of continuous weekly and daily publication. The editor will attend a Manitoba CWNA board meeting Saturday, mixing business with publication next week.
The 45th Rossburn Fair drew similar attendance to 1953 with more exhibitors, roughly 70 entries, and improved grandstand seating for 200. Officials credit volunteer labor, emphasize horse racing and livestock parades, and list prize winners across cattle, hogs, sheep, poultry, and horticulture with names of contributing individuals and local stables.
A regular meeting of the Ross burn Hospital Aid was held Monday evening with fair attendance. Items needed include 12 bath towels 12 face towels 24 face cloths 6 abdominal binders 6 T-binders. Margaret Stitt won the jackpot. Pettit-Point raffle raised 64 dollars won by Miss Jean Armstrong. Raspberry Tea planned for August. Thanks to Miss Scollie for the donation.
Excavations have been under way since Thursday last on an extension to Moffat's Drug Store. The 36 foot extension at the rear will include 16 ft of living room space 10 ft of kitchen and 10 ft for the dispensary. In charge of operations is Harry Kombyr.
Large crowd attended the Caterer's Picnic under the Retail Merchants Association at Silver Beach on Monday afternoon July 26. About 20 to 30 from Rossburn joined towns Inglis Angusville and Russell. A Pony League game saw Rossburn beat Inglis 9-2, then a 4-4 tie as Rossburn held on after giving Inglis their pitcher and catcher. An evening program and community singing followed in the Hall.
The Road Problem readers will note a reprint of a Review article on the south end traffic issue. It appeared in the Manitoba Says column on the Tribune's editorial page this Tuesday.
Winners in the Rossburn Creamery dairy contest were Mrs. F Kalyniuk Angusville first with 97.5 points Ed Yaworski Elphinstone finished second with 97.2 points Frank Zegalski Vista placed third with 97.0 points Mrs. S Bereza Solsgirth fourth with 96.9 points George Sherritt Solsgirth earned 96.7 points Judges were Herb McCrae of Winnipeg dairy branch and K Johnson creamery supervisor Winnipeg.
In Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Church on July 16 Joyce Dutchak, daughter of Mr and Mrs Maurice Dutchak, married William Hryciuk of Rossburn. Rev E Olynek officiated. The gown was white satin with lace trim and seed pearl veil. Bridesmaids wore blue net gowns, ushers from Winnipeg attended. reception followed in Rossburn Town Hall.
