Parkway Co-op will start construction in early August on a 7 132 square foot grocery building between the existing Co op and the bakery in Rossburn. The project, costing about 750000 dollars, will be financed without borrowing and is praised as a positive move for Parkway Co op and the Rossburn community.
The plans show a mid November completion target for the new grocery store area and a January grand opening. Sales under Mr Mills have risen from six to 10 million with growing membership. Hussman Canada of Winnipeg awarded the building tender with equipment tenders pending. The current 3600 square foot store will double shelving for groceries meats produce and a smoked meat section and will reuse the new scanning tills from the old store. The old store will be sold and later torn down to create a south facing main entrance and parking lot.
The Rossburn Summer Festival pressed on with bingo and sidewalk sales, while a pancake breakfast drew about 350 attendees. Float winners were named for several categories as weather forced cancellation of horse and chariot races yet chuckwagon and quarter horse events continued.
