Manitoba farmers have received 161 grants totaling 170000 and 77 loans worth 700000 under the farm diversification program launched last October. The plan targets lower and middle income farmers under 45, with grants up to 2000 for non operating costs and mandatory participation in on farm management advisory services.
A thunderstorm Tuesday evening dropped half an inch of rain in thirty minutes easing moisture problems. Since April 1 rainfall totals at Rossburn reach 7.55 inches, with evaporation kept high by strong prevailing winds and conditions nearly normal overall.
Three Rossburn residents earned diplomas from Red River Community College in Winnipeg. John Ryshytylo completed Surveying Technology, Karl Lepischak finished Design and Drafting Technology, and Leonard Komhyr completed Building Technology.
The Rossburn Review will not publish for two weeks as editor and his family take a break from the demanding weekly production routine.
Festival posters outline events August 10 to 12. Friday features Hard Rain dance music in Town Hall and a changed Red Rider booking. Manitoba Sand Greens Open golf runs Friday 5 p.m. to Sunday 1 p.m. with multiple flites. Saturday includes a downtown parade, fair exhibits, senior and minor baseball tournaments, gymkhana events, crafts display, Market Gardens, and the Harvest Festival Hoedown at Town Hall. Gay-Time midway venues alternate between the Fair Grounds and Rossman Lake.
A 50th wedding anniversary celebration honored Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shwaluk on July 7 1973. Mass at St Josephat's Church officiated by Rev S Borys followed by dinner and dancing. Attendants included Mrs Teenie Sicinski and Mr Alex Yanick. They wed July 15 1923 near Rossburn.
Parkland Development Corporation and the Dr. Frank Skinner Memorial Arboretum Development Committee request a 20 thousand dollar grant from Agriculture Minister Sam Askiw to develop and improve the Skinner Nursery property at Dropmore. Fourteen municipalities support the effort highlighting Dr. Skinner’s world renowned arboretum work spanning six decades.
