Manitoba flood disaster aid announced by provincial minister
Steve Ashton, minister of transportation and government services, said Manitoba will spend about 7.5 million to aid recovery from spring 2001 overland flooding. About 4 million DFA funds will assist private citizens, businesses, nonprofits and municipalities, with 3.5 million to repair infrastructure. The province will seek federal cost sharing and 70 municipalities sought DFA aid after widespread flood impacts. A separate program covers roughly 400,000 for November 2000 Red River rains.
