Rossburn Fair Set for July 14 with New Tug of War

The 48th Rossburn Fair and Sports is scheduled for Tuesday July 14 with entries in prize sections expected to match or exceed prior years. The E. J. Casey outfit leads the day with events planned before the fair and a four team baseball tournament featuring Rossburn vs Angusville and Shoal Lake vs McConnell. A Tug of War center with ten man teams will add spectator interest and athletic flair to the program.

Angusville bids farewell to Mr and Mrs Bellows and family

A farewell gathering at Ukrainian Hall Angusville honored Mr and Mrs Andrew Bellows Iris and Terry. Guests included Out of town attendees from Silverton Russell and Saltcoats. Mr Bellows moves to USA taking over duties at a U G G elevator and departing July 12 after a sale. Mrs Bellows given keepsake cup and saucer. Mr Bill Ritchie succeeds him.

Much Construction Noted In Village

Rossburn District Hospital adds a two storey wing as local contractor Harry Komhyr and team push progress. Nearby, Mike Baubie's bungalow style home nears completion on Victoria Avenue with several other projects including J L Blaskiewicz and Joe Bart homes, municipal office stuccoing, Nick Karmazenuk residence work, and a new rural municipality machinery shed rising at the Fair Grounds serving as a display building for fair time.

Rural Municipality of Rossburn July Council Meeting

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn met on July 6 with Reeve Ed Shust presiding. Minutes, financials, and bills were approved. One building residence application was rejected while pension requests for blind and old age were approved. A Rossburn Silver Creek boundary road segment was added to the main market road system with graveling adjustments. Councillor Brown was named fire contact. revised electors roll completed. adjourned to August 3.

Birthday salute to Mr A Andrew on seventy four

Rossburn notes a birthday greeting for Mr A Andrew who celebrated his 74th birthday on a July day. A birthday dinner was held in his honor with 19 guests seated at a lawn table hosted by Mr and Mrs J D Andrew. Mr and Mrs W Coughlan and Florence spent the weekend at Belmont and Brandon.

Indian Pow Wow Highlights Baseball Exhibition At Pow Wow

The 25th annual Indian Pow Wow at the Waywayseecappo Grounds runs Thursday and Friday with posters distributed. A Friday evening exhibition game features Rossburn and Shoal Lake baseball clubs on the grounds.

Emerson Friends Farewell to Hadleys

On Sunday evening after an Anglican Church service in Emerson a social in the Parish Hall honored Cpl and Mrs Hadley and their family as they depart Emerson in early July for Brandon Manitoba The event featured a duet by M E Peto and Miss Sandra Peto and BorDen Hadley sang two numbers A purse was presented to the Hadleys by M Peto on behalf of the three congregations The gathering expressed that they will miss the Hadleys and wished them happiness in their new home

MFAC Advocates Manitoba as Home for Agriculture Minister

After a Brandon meeting MFAC President P. E. Burnell wired the Prime Minister urging the appointment of a Federal Minister of Agriculture from Manitoba. He said the minister should represent a rural constituency and be familiar with prairie agricultural issues.

Rossburn Women's Institute Meeting Held In July

The Rossburn Women's Institute met on Tuesday July 2 at the United Church Annex with 10 members present. Vice-president Mrs Alexander presided in place of president Mrs Stitt. A donation of $30 was given to the hospital for oxygen inlets. Mrs Willis Stitt of Vista, a delegate to the Provincial Convention in Winnipeg in June, gave a report. Lunch was served by Mrs Jean Cleland and Mrs Mabel Armstrong.

Good Year for Peonies Brightens Halliday Garden

Mrs. Vic Halliday grows six peony bushes and a party counted two bushes. One bush displayed fifty blossoms at once while the other showed forty blossoms and forty three buds yet to open. The flowers are a striking sight for onlookers.

Wedding at Olha Celebrates June 20 Ceremony

Adel ine Hacikowski and Nick Dmyterko wed at Olha on June 20 with Father Lehky officiating. Bride wore a white taffeta gown with net, lace bolero, and carried ice box roses. attendants included Shirley Mychasin, Helen Zegalski, Elsie Zencheshyn. best man Edward Hachkowski. ushers Steve Dmyterko and Terry Wozney. Reception followed at the couple’s home and later at Marc. They will reside in Brandon.
