A barley harvesting demonstration is set for Friday July 13 at 2 p.m. at Rossburn Fair Grounds. Attendees will learn to harvest barley for malting and to qualify for grade spreads and malting premiums, with experts from the Grain Inspection Branch Extension Service and Machinery Company showing machine adjustments.
Const Whyte led the Rossburn Senior Ball Club and the league with a .350 batting average in eight league games, tied for second at .34 by Don Stitt and Gary Lindsay. Others included Lakusta .333 Cormack .312 Carson .281 Chuchmuch .275 McIntosh .272 Williams .240. The club played eight league games, winning three.
Waywayseecappo Indian Day School on the Lizard Point Reserve held its first official closing for the summer holiday on Friday June 22. After classes a picnic lunch featured races with winners including Myrtle Leveright Alice Clearsky Norman Shingooose Cora Longclaws Lillian Clearsky Alex Clearsky Harry Clearsky Kingsley Two Voice and Russel Mecas.
Rossburn No 2 challenges Angusville in a best of three for the Moffat's Drug Store cup in the North Western Little League. The league includes three Rossburn teams and one each from Vista and Angusville. First game saw Angusville win 11 to 10 in a seesaw battle. Game 2, possibly final, was postponed due to weather and may be played in Angusville later this week.
The Hudson Bay Route Association reports wheat shipments via Port Churchill will surpass prior years aided by a 15 cent per bushel saving versus Great Lakes routes. The aim is 25 million bushels exported, with government action needed to authorize Wheat Board deliveries. expected economic benefits include cheaper imports and a booming railway freight. An annual excursion departs Regina July 25 for Churchill with stops at Saskatoon Prince Albert and The Pas.
Wm Drosky aged 29 and his wife of Yorkton along with Miss Myrtle Wilson RN of Winnipeg escaped serious injuries when their 1947 Mercury Coupe overturned two miles north of Rossburn on Saturday around 1 45 PM. The car struck a four inch spike in a left rear tire and gravel on the road contributed to loss of control. The vehicle turned over about 1 1 2 times and rested wheels upward. The couple, married about a week, were taken to Rossburn hospital for eight hours. Miss Wilson had minor injuries.
The reminder stresses never swimming alone and avoiding swimming after dark. If trouble arises in a boat or canoe, stay with the upturned craft as it will stay afloat, urging daily water safety vigilance.
Director of Safety W Trevor Davies reports 131 Manitobans died in accidents through May 1951, up from 120 a year earlier. Traffic deaths total 24 in five months, homes account for 59 fatalities, industry 11, and general accidents 37. May alone saw 27 deaths: 3 in industry, 3 in homes, 8 in traffic, 13 in general accidents.

A meeting of the Manitoba Medical Service is planned for Saturday evening July 4 at 8 o clock in Rossburn Hall. Sponsored by the Women's Institute, guest speaker will be Mr A G Richardson of Winnipeg. All citizens urged to attend.
Heavy rain Saturday afternoon and evening forced cancellation of all events after 6 p.m. Despite a strong turnout, anticipated profits were lost though afternoon crowds and booths covered expenses. Proceeds listed include W.L Booth 97.26, rink committee booth 122.63, gate 323.68, dance 38.20, raffle 65.00. eleven teams played baseball with 380.00 prize money split among four towns.
The Rossburn District Hospital opened recently with visitors praising the facility though noting the lack of an X ray machine due to costs. Local donations from Rod Clement and the School District of Hranko, plus many residents, fund the purchase, while gifts listed include robes, fruit, eggs, pickles, and furniture for the nurses living room.
In Jasper National Park last year 2,500 anglers fished 35 lakes and 34 streams, landing 10,500 Rainbow and Dolly Varden trout. It took about 42 minutes per river catch and near an hour more for lake trout. Artificial flies outpaced plugs and bait, with Eastern Brook trout most readily caught.
A double shower was held in the Club Room on Wednesday evening June 27 in honor of Misses Dean McMillan and Florence Clucas, bride elects of July 25 and August 3. Guests enjoyed community singing, gifts were opened, and both honorees spoke thanked attendees before singing. The event ended with a lunch as balloons popped at the piano.
