Henry Janzen and the rise of athletic scholarships in Canada
A long tribute to Henry Janzen, nicknamed Hank, detailing his role in pushing athletic scholarships in Canadian universities. The piece credits Janzen with challenging parochial views, winning support from campus figures and leaders like Bob Banman, and prompting provinces to fund scholarships. It notes Ontario resistance as a central hurdle, while praising regional coalitions and the broader shift toward recognizing athletes as students.
