Angusville Postmaster Mike Katchin Retires After 31 Years

Angusville Postmaster Mike Katchin retires after 31 years of service with the Post Office. A government plaque signed by Canada’s Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau honors his loyalty, presented by J C Anderson, Zane Postmaster, Virden. He also receives a medallion, and hands the Angusville Post Office keys to new postmistress Marianne Melnyk.

Village Council approves new fire truck rates in Rossburn

The Rossburn Village Council met on January 15 and 19 to set fire protection charges effective May 1, 1981. Truck rates start at 100 dollars for the first hour and 25 dollars for each additional hour, with firemen remuneration of 7 dollars for the first hour and 4 dollars thereafter. The department will receive eight chairs from the Community Hall Complex. Other actions include funds for curling arena reshingling, Manitoba Urban Municipalities dues, and appointments to regional boards.

Village, R.M. meet in joint council session on program

A special meeting of the Rural Municipality of Rossburn and a joint session with the Village Council were held to discuss the Canada Herd Maintenance Program. Council resolved to urge review of eligibility criteria and the current payment schedule amid farmer concerns.

February is Heart Month in Rossburn and Oakburn

The 1981 Manitoba Heart Fund aims for 818700 with a door to door canvass through February. Chairpersons Rowatt Veitch in Rossburn and Mrs Bill Varish in Oakburn urge residents to give, aiming to surpass 1980 and 449 totals respectively, stressing heart disease as a major risk.
