Kostecky Named Deputy Mayor To Fill Rossburn Vacancy
The Village of Rossburn council met January 9 1980 to fill the vacant mayoral seat. Morley Kostecky was appointed Deputy Head with voting rights for a three year term and to the Rossburn Hospital Board replacing Mayor Rick Plaiser. Harry Aylwin named citizen appointee to the Rossburn District Hospital Board. Regular meeting set for January 15 at 7:00 PM with Kostecky presiding.

Pelly Trail School Division hires two new teachers

Histories Club reports multiple family histories and plans
The Rossburn Histories Club held its January meeting with ten attendees. Donations of 20 dollars each were received from J.G. Stitt and Birdtail W.I. toward the Family Tree Book, now in local stores. Lena Nychuk reported on a Winnipeg workshop, and an editorial committee was formed with Ernie Stefanik as coordinator. A May 15, 1980 deadline was set for submissions.

Lions Telethon funds Western Manitoba learning center
The Winnipeg Lions Telethon will fund a new Westman Centre for Children with Learning Disabilities in Brandon to serve districts from Swan River Valley to Melita and Killarney. The project will receive a capital grant with three years of operating support from Lions clubs, aiming to address dyslexia and related perceptual issues, reduce dropouts, and connect parents and teachers with information through the MACLD Resource Centre of Western Manitoba.
