Manitoba Hydro announces 7.9 percent rate hike
Manitoba Hydro and Winnipeg Hydro will raise electricity rates 7.9 per cent across the board starting April 1984. Chairman Saul Cherniak said rates remain the lowest in Canada and the increase aims to return the Crown corporation to break even in 1984/85, avoiding a projected $26.2 million operating deficit. Residential users averaging 700 kWh monthly will see under $2.28 more per month. rural and diesel-rate customers $2.76 more.
