Rossburn Women's Institute Meets in January 1958
The first W. I. meeting of 1958 gathered 17 members and five visitors on Tuesday January 7 at 3 p m in the church annex with President Mrs Edna Alexander presiding. A penny waistline roll call, reports, charity notes, a New Year resolutions talk, and pot luck lunch followed. A National Film Board film, sponsored by the W I, is set for January 27 at 8 p m in the legion hall.

Leslie To Get Award for Horticulture Pioneer
Dr. W. R. Leslie will receive the Stevenson Memorial Gold Medal at the Manitoba Horticultural Association diamond jubilee convention in Winnipeg. The Morden Experimental Station superintendent for 36 years, he helped plan the International Peace Garden and advanced wildlife food plantings for winter, lecturing across the US and Canada.

The Rossburn Shoal Lake Abes defeated Minnedosa 5 to 4 at Shoal Lake on January 9. Rossburn Shoal Lake led 2 1 after the first period and 3 1 in the second, with Minnedosa scoring three in the final period. Rossburn Intermediate hockey club traveled to Decker for a six team hockey tournament and finished in a first place tie with Isabella Decker, sharing the top prize. Rossburn beat Cremer Manitoba 6 1 and rallied to tie Isabella Decker 3 3 after two periods, with goals from Heindle and Doyle and others. Some players were unavailable and Oak River substitutions filled in.

Rossburn hosts a doubleheader with a 0–0 first game between Rossburn and Vista Pee-Wees. Gerth Major tallied the lone penalty. In game two Rossburn teammates overwhelmed Strathclair BBs 6–8 as Rossburn built an 8–1 lead, then 4–3, before scoring twice in the third. Scorers for Rossburn-Shoal Lake included Bryan Kowal with two, while Robin Huston, Bill Shiels, Wayne Pushka and Mowbray added singles.

Death of Steve Chayka 74 in Oakburn
Steve Chayka aged 74 died January 8 at the Oakburn residence of Frank Kowalchuk who boarded there for a year. The funeral was held January 1 at 2 p.m. at St John at Colony Church with Rev Olach officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Kowalchuk John Yagiinsky John Leganchuk John Wladyka Walter Leganchuk and John M. Leganchuk. Burial followed at St John at Colony cemetery. Survived by two sons John and Mike and one daughter Kay of Winnipeg. Raginski Funeral Home of Oakburn arranged services.
