The Rossburn Memorial Arena will host the Rossburn Men's Centennial Bonspiel starting Monday January 16 with at least 50 rinks expected. Six events span seven sheets of ice after donations and prizes. A Tuesday smoker at Town Hall basement and Centennial Trophies for top four events are highlighted.
Jackpot Bingo at Rossburn Town Hall on January 18 features 12 games at 4 dollars and 2 games at 15 dollars with a 220 dollar jackpot, plus 1 Surprise Package and 25 dollar consolation prize. Lap cards cost 75 cents and extra cards 25 cents. Sponsored by the Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Committee. Rossburn Ladies Curling Club hosts Open Bonspiel January 20-21. call-ins requested by January 18 for curling participation.
Winners listed for January 11 include Chester Magnowski Russell and Mrs John Hullick each with four dollar prizes. Millicent Sawchuk and Anne Drosoivski earned fifteen dollars, and Joe Moodry Russell among others won twenty five dollars in a tie prize.
Angusville area residents share Ukr Christmas visits with relatives in Foxwarren Russell and Vancouver. Evens and Mabel Parohec welcomed a son born Jan 5 in Birtle. Sonia Chuchmuch’s mother passed away on Jan 7. Several families hosted relatives during the holidays including Katchen and Parhome families.
Samuel J. Stitt aged 71 of Foxwarren died December 28 1966. Surviving are Emma Stitt wife three daughters Muriel McManus Sheila Danko Beatrice Small and thirteen grandchildren. Funeral was held January 3 at United Church Foxwarren with interment in Foxwarren cemetery. Stitt was WWII veteran Zone Commander of the Canadian Legion longtime RM Birtle council elder of United Church Bayfield PM of Masonic Lodge No 152 and retired farmer. He leaves sisters and brothers and was predeceased by parents and two brothers. Pallbearers listed.
The Vista United Church Women met Wednesday evening January 4 at Mrs. M. Miller’s home with eleven in attendance. Devotional led by Joan Baker, business on minor church repairs and kitchen furniture for the new manse, annual reports read, benediction followed by tea. next meeting set for February 1 at Mrs. Joan Baker’s home with Mrs. Stitt on devotional duties. A note mentions an omission of treasurer Mrs. H. A. Hamilton from 1967 officers.
Vista News reports Mrs Les Hamilton visiting Winnipeg with her sister and family. Mr and Mrs R McCauly accompany Mrs Hamilton. Mr and Mrs Young took Mrs Otto Miller to Nipawin Saskatchewan to visit her son Aldrich Miller and family before returning to Alberta. On return they visited Mrs Boles at Elfros Saskatchewan.
Dorothy Winnifred Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Miller Rossburn united in marriage to William Howard Owens son of the late Mr and Mrs H E Owens at Bethel Temple Brandon. Reverend Gervin Miller Moose Jaw performed the ceremony with organist Mrs Gervin Miller.
Adam Halliday and his family celebrated Christmas Day 1966 with his mother and the entire family, marking the first Christmas together in 21 years.
