4H Public Speaking Winners at Oakburn Event
The Oakburn Elementary School hosted the 4H Public Speaking Competition on Friday February 20 with chairlady Darlene Peech. Winners in beginner junior and senior classes received trophies and ribbons while judges and organizers praised all participants. Final speak offs are scheduled in Brandon on April 9 with winners from Oakburn advancing.

Colder Weather Brings Back Winter Sports Enthusiasm
Curlers snowmobilers figure skaters and hockey players welcomed the arrival of colder weather on Wednesday night. The city’s spring preview earlier in the week gave way to winter activity as water ran down the streets and athletes prepared for winter sports again.
4-H Clubs Hold Annual Bonspiel
The Oakburn 4-H Home Economics and the Oakburn 4-H Garden Club held their annual Curling Bonspiel on February 5th and 6th. Event prizes went to teams led by Rick Lucyshen and Blaird Foxton with named players earning trophies, glasses, salt and pepper shakers, and jigsaw puzzles.

On February 21 a dinner was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Bill Shermeta honoring their 50th wedding anniversary. They wed February 21 1926 in Rossburn Manitoba and farmed there until 1971 before retiring to Rossburn. Their son Terry and his wife Viola from Edmonton Alberta visited, with congratulatory messages from Robi Stanfield and the Governor General of Canada.

The February 12 1976 Rossburn council meeting authorized attendance at municipal seminars and water and waste school events, approved donations to Red Cross and Branch Lines, discussed a drug store feasibility, and approved several by laws for a fire department council remuneration and municipal staff pay.
