Town Hall hosted a week of leadership training by Mr. Mart M. Devenney for 16 plus participants from six to ninety six. The sessions emphasized using existing facilities and improvised equipment to run a year round recreation program and to spark a Community Council formation with a meeting on March 4.
Mr and Mrs Pete Stankie traveled to Winnipeg for medical treatment. Mr Lorne Hrysak is hospitalized. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Jack Miller on the birth of a son. Vista ice carnival crowned Miss Viola Hamilton with Gwen Hullick and Sylvia Mackenski as princesses. Dance by Dunc's Orchestra on Feb 25.
Mr and Mrs Alex Cieland and family dent Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Carson s of Angusville. Douglas Joiner spent the weekend at his home. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs J Miller of Vista on the birth of a son.
Bernice Carson spent the weekend at her home. Mr and Mrs Vivian Stuttspert Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs J Sherritt. Mervin Crookshanks spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Wr Maxwell Jr. Mrs Allan Smith held a quilting bee at her home. Mrs Gordon Ament visiting Whitmer parents in Russell. Mr and Mrs S Veitch spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs C Palmer.
Roy Shaw visited friends in town this past week. Mrs. Albert Ament spent the past week at Russell visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordson Rea and family, and other friends while in Russell.
The couple Ray Shaw and Evelyn Bowman of Rathwell formalized their marriage last week. Bowman, formerly a Rossburn exchange telephone operator, is the bride.
R Peden instructed by the rural council will sell by public auction the entire possessions of the late Joseph Dunits including furniture household effects and farm implements at C A Menzies warehouse Rossburn on Saturday March 6 at 1 p m sharp.
Nellie Frances Kosteski and Michael John Ostash wed in a February ceremony at the Greek Catholic church in Rossburn. Rev. R Zakriewski officiated as attendants Bertha Kosteski Verna Michalchuk, Lawrence Herbs Bill Anchuk served as groomsmen. Dinner followed at the groom’s mother’s Kelloe home.
The Oakburn Carnival was held Friday at the local open air skating rink with prizes awarded for costume and racing events. Marie Mychaiyshyn was crowned carnival queen with Zetta Black and Rose Zur twk as princesses.
A well attended event featured Billy Matiation and his Prairie Pals providing music at the Aknian National Home after a carnival. Ziggy Zapski won the valuable prize drawn, and proceeds from the evening totaled about $300.
Tony Sawchuk travels to Port Arthur after a telegraph about his ill brother. Tom Sitko of Oakburn visits his mother Mrs. Obedniak. Nick Derkach hosts a farewell as he plans to move to a Silverton district farm. Steve Kuzenko buys a Winnipeg tractor to start farming locally. Nick Melnyk loses his house to fire. Skabar of Angusville visits, Mrs. Mike Wladyka visits Winnipeg. Mike Kuzenko discovers 5 to 10 thousand feet of spruce in a swamp he thought was worthless.
Wm Brykaliuk is preparing a sawmill and plans to begin operations soon, focusing on setting up equipment and securing site readiness for production.
A box social hosted in Valley shoal on Friday February 20 drew widespread praise with a good turnout. Mr and Mrs N Barnesky traveled to Winnipeg to visit their son Peter who remains seriously ill in Deer Lodge hospital. They were joined by Mr Alex Barnesky.
Mr. James Wood of Invermay Sask flies to Birdtail after seeing an advertisement by Mr. Alex Barnesky offering a power drill for sale. He lands in a field, completes the transaction, then returns by air, an unusual method for responding to a classified ad.
