The notice lists weekly Thursday office issue details on Victoria Ave Rossburn with Canadian rate 200 dollars yearly and U S rate 2.50, along with cards of waxes and memorial notices priced up to seven lines. It notes second class Ma authorized.
Miss Nita Baldrow joins the telephone staff. Mrs. A. E. Wakefield and son return after a week with Mr. and Mrs. Bolton. Miss Hemphill spent the weekend at home and flew back Monday. Mr. Leslie Grundy of Clear Lake visited his home over the weekend. Mr. Clair Peden returned with his bulldozer to clear sideroads of snow. Mrs. Henry Miller left for Vancouver to visit relatives. A social evening at Miss Dolly Miller’s honored Miss Evelyn Bowman departing for her here. Mr. Hugh MacDonald of Yorkton visited Lloyd and Mrs. Duncanson this week.
A group of children suffering from mumps are expected to recover swiftly. Mrs. J. Urbanowski, who had been visiting her daughter Lillian in Oyen Alberta for two weeks, returned home on Saturday.
Six teams entered the Rossburn rink hockey tournament held Friday February six with winners including Birth over Elphinstone four three Oak Burn over Lizard Point three two Russell defeating Vista by default Solsgirth over Rossburn seven three and Russell taking first money by beating Solsgirth twelve three. J Pradhnuk will ship tigestock and fox horses on Monday February sixteen from Rossburn and Birdtail. Maron Slow and Roy Irwin donated ten gallons of gasoline to Elphinstone for the team traveling the greatest distance.
Local notes report Miss Valetta Hamilton at her parents home and returns from Winnipeg by several residents including Mr Woytowick and Mr Hay. The Vista Carnival Queen candidates are Gwen Hullick Viva Hamilton and Sylvia Mackedenski. A gopher sighting on February 2 is noted with James Brown credited for killing the animal.
Les Hamiltons team sparked excitement as they raced Friday while both Hamilton and Paw Zen Lak sustained light bruises after a sleigh topple. The horses were brought under control near Aler Me Pha'ls.
Mr and Mrs J Chegwin mark their sixtieth wedding anniversary with plans for a family celebration on February thirteenth. The couple’s long marriage is noted in local society notes.
The Oakburn Ladies' Aid held its regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Harold J. Brown on Thursday afternoon February 5 with most members present. A luncheon followed. The next meeting is set for March 4 at Mrs. D. A. Menzies's home. Harold J. Brown is visiting Winnipeg relatives on CN railway leave. Mr. R. G. Manning of Purvis Man. is filling in at the CN station for two weeks during Brown's holiday. Mrs. Manning and their son Garry arrived last Friday to join him in Oakburn.
A Valentine dance sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Youth will be held at the Parish hall on Friday evening February 13. Everybody is cordially invited to be present.
The Rossburn council forms a committee to study a site for a new skating and hockey rink, citing foundation stability and cost. The village has 5500 in cash and bonds and hopes to raise at least 5000 more with ten year non interest bearing notes, asking district residents for support and boosters to enable a summer construction. Mayor J. G. Stitt notes sympathy for local families Hnat Mye and Nick Chuba who died recently.
Mr. Jack Jinkins of Oakburn visited at Boltons. Mrs. A Wakefield of Rossburn voted at her parents home and called on Mr. H Collingridge Ekford Experimental Farmer.
Reminiscences recount early Rossburn teachers and classes as districts formed around Mile Corner Perth Islay and Bryan schools. Names include Gerrand Young Starratt Reddington McEwen McLaren and Bruce with moving schools, land issues, and local arbitration shaping the district's development.
