Rossburn RM approves 1980 provisional estimates

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn reconvened January 31 to complete business. The council approved December 1979 financial statements, bylaw 1073 for 1980 operating funding, and provisional operating and capital estimates totaling 120000.00 across General Government, Protective, Transportation, Environmental Health, Public Health and Welfare, Planning, Economic Development, Recreational and Fiscal Services. By-law 1074 covers council remuneration and mileage.

Firsts in Rossburn area history include early phones and a traveling minister

The article recalls Rossburn region firsts such as the 1913 era home telephone of Robert Hiscock and William Butler, a 26 inch appliance, and the 62 below zero reading in 1943. Rossburn Game and Fish annual meeting notes filed

The Rossburn Game and Fish Association held its annual meeting at Alex Cleland's home on February 1 with ten members present. Minutes were read and approved, correspondence noted stocking of about 700 walleyes 7 to 9 inches in Rossman Lake in September, and discussions covered Rainbow Trout and an equitable share of the catch. Plans for 1980 stocking were discussed with several individuals and the association involved. Officers were elected: President Gordon Ament, Vice President Alex Cleland, Secretary Otto Elvers, Treasurer Rowat Veitch.

Ukrainian pioneers book earns Manitoba award medal

The Manitoba Historical Society awarded the Margaret McWilliams Medal for 1979 to the author of Spruce, Swamp and Stone at its January 12 dinner at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg. Dr Michael Ewanchuk accepted on site, with Dr J W Grant MacEwan as guest speaker. The author is compiling a new Manitoba Ukrainian pioneers book based on pioneer interviews, slated for 1980.

Weather Report Reflects Mild Clouds and Winds Across Manitoba
