Two coaches reshape hockey from Soviet benches to NHL teams
The piece traces the rise of dual coaching in hockey from Tarasov and Chernyshev in the Soviet system to NHL reform led by Fred Shero and Scotty Bowman. It notes Winnipeg's two man setup with Tom McVie and Billy Sutherland, the hiring of Mike Smith as an associate, and players like Willie Lindstrom and Markus Mattson benefiting from the expanded coaching staff. The article argues two coaches improve strategy, motivation, and development across teams.
