The Rossburn Urial Society directors met on Saturday January 25 to decide if the exhibition would run with the fair or shift to a later summer date. They chose to continue the exhibit during the July 4 and 5 fair. They plan expanded displays and seek more exhibitors to increase winter crafts and sewing participation.
Four video lottery terminals have been installed at the Rossburn Hotel with two more possible later. Each unit offers four games such as Lucky 7s and Joker Poker. Coin operated credits worth 25 cents each drive wins and payouts, attracting a diverse clientele per co owner Paulette Mann.
A regional Waste Reduction Steering Committee has been formed to push waste reduction as a priority for Parkland area councils and municipalities. Members from local recycling groups and councils met with Earthbound Consulting and Manitoba Environment in December 1991 to plan a regional strategy and to promote public education. The group aims to meet monthly April through Romney to build support for a Parkland waste task force and to coordinate grants, inform provincial recycling bodies, and share recycling ideas. Next meeting is February 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dauphin Town Council Chambers.
The province will review all provincial correctional facilities to form a systems plan addressing Aboriginal Justice Inquiry recommendations. Justice Minister Jim McRae notes many changes require careful planning and resources, with the review expected to take about a year.
