Beaver Lumber honors manager for 41 years of service

Mr J A Lindsay of Beaver Lumber Company is shown receiving a long service award from company president R J Gourley at a January 10 dinner in Winnipeg. The Beaver Organization honored members with 25 years or more of service. Lindsay joined the company in 1914 and has worked there forty one years.

Rossburn Bantams Draw Hamiota In Playdowns Clash

Rossburn Bantam team drew Hamiota in the first round of the Manitoba Clint Bennett Trophy playdowns. Twenty five teams entered the event with Rossburn and area backing the youngsters as playoffs begin. Other matchups include Swan River versus McCreary Binsearth versus Inglis Decker versus Oak River Minnedosa versus Rivers and more to follow.

Third Edition Weed Bulletin Helps Prairie Farmers Identify Weeds

The Department announces a revised Third Edition of the Illustrated Guide to Prairie Weeds with over 60 common prairie weeds and seeds illustrated. It aims to aid western farmers, rural teachers, students, and 4 H members in effective weed control through clear non technical descriptions.

Albert Berney Receives Trophy At Agricultural Museum Event

At the Agricultural Memorial Museum of Manitoba annual meeting on January 18, Albert Berney of Angusville won the steam engine setting contest at the threshers reunion. The museum started a campaign to raise 100000 dollars and received 20 acres for a future museum site. J S MacMurphy of McConnell donated the bronze trophy depicting two crossed sheaves of wheat, linked to the Selkirk wheat project from Strathclair Manitoba.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Donna Hullick in Oakburn

The funeral for 85 year old Mrs. Donna Hullick widow of Fred Hullick was held Tuesday January 17 in the Greek Catholic church. Burial followed at Oakburn Greek Catholic Cemetery with pallbearers Bill Chop tuck Mike Borodie Jack Malan chuk and Stanley Lazaruk. Survived by two sons John Hullick Vista and Bill Hullick Rossburn. four daughters Jessie Yanick Mary Borodie Elsie Mak anchuk Oakburn and Nell Choptiuk Selsgirth. twenty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Successful Bingo Held Friday in Rossburn

The event sponsored by the Womerly Organization drew players from the town of Rossburn and surrounding areas for an evening of bingo. Proceeds supported community activities and local clubs.

Mr Bateman is employed by the Oregon Statesman and Capital Journal. Couple plan to welcome Rossburn acquaintances on the West Coast and will reside at 1125 Highland Ave until June then 1135 Highland Ave.

Rossburn Hospital Aid Meeting Highlights

The Hospital Aid met on Monday January 30 with 7 members present. The group discussed hospital needs including 20 yards of back towelling and mending by various organizations. Mrs Langridge was named auditor and Mrs J D Andrey as sewing committee convener. The meeting closed with Mizpah Benediction.

Loss for Oakburn in hockey clash with Erickson High

Oakburn High School fell 12 to six against Erickson High School in a local hockey game. Matiowsky led Oakburn with three points while M Michalyshin added two and T Twerdachlik scored once. Goalkeeper Kaksardz guarded the net for Oakburn.

Social Evening Hosted by Legion Auxiliary at Rossburn

The Legion Auxiliary held a social evening on Monday January 30 in Rossburn with about twenty five attendees. Entertainment included film showings, bingo and card games. Proceeds from bingo benefited the March of Dimes, totaling over $10. A lunch was served to all.

Miss Alva William son daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Williamson Rossburn Manitoba wed Bryce Llewellyn son of Mr. and Mrs. Jobe Llewellyn Winnipeg Manitoba in a quiet HMCS Naden Chapel ceremony officiated by Rev J E Williams. Lieut Cattrell played music. The couple honeymooned Up Island and reside at 785 Tulip Avenue.

Bantam BBs hosted Shoal Lake last Thursday winning 6 to 4. After two opening goals each side, Shoal Lake led 4 3 in the second period before the locals surged with three unanswered third period goals. Rossburn scorers included Yarmey Huston Kowal two Pritchard two with assists from McFarlane.

Andrew Kon drat dies suddenly at Oakburn

Mr Andrew Kon drat died very suddenly at Oakburn on Saturday January 21. The funeral service was held Tuesday January 24 in the Roman Catholic church with Rev J F Cieply O M R officiating. Burial followed in the Oakburn Roman Catholic cemetery. Miss Annette Woytovich of Brandon and Ernest Woytovich of Camp Shilo visited the family. Mr and Mrs Steve Antonation of Brandon were weekend guests.

Oil land sales announce bids across Manitoba reserves

The Department of Mines and Natural Resources reported a first sale of Crown lands for oil leases bringing in $62,594 from bids on 642,000 acres. California Standard Company won Sale No 11 with a one cent per acre bid plus fees and a $20,000 deposit, while Shell Oil won Sale No 12 parcels with bonuses totaling $51,? and deposits to secure a $100,000 commitment.

Oakburn School Annual Meeting Highlights

Oakburn S. D. held its annual meeting on January 12 with many ratepayers present. Mike Nowosad was chosen chair and Mrs. Stanley Antonation secretary. Gerelus and Wasilka were elected to the board for three years. Mychalyshyn and Lazaruk remain on the board, Mandzuik elected auditor. Mychalyshyn and Lazaruk will serve as delegates to the Manitoba Trustee Convention in Winnipeg.
