Rossburn Village Council Minutes Dec 18 1962

The Rossburn Village Council met December 18 in the council chambers. Mayor J G Stitt and councilors Wlad yka Aylwin Antoniw Drosdoski attended. They adopted the November financial report, approved the constables report, increased curling rink insurance by 2000 dollars, passed By law 348 on taxes for 1962, created a 1962 surplus reserve for water and sewer projects, approved a 35 dollar year end bonus for the secretary-treasurer, paid bills totaling 2758.14, and adjourned to January 2 1963 at 8 p.m.

Waywayseecappo Band Elects Chief and Councillors

Voters on December 18 1962 elected Lynn McKay as Chief with an overwhelming win over Archie Shin goose. Councillors Arthur Shingoose Isabel Claude were re elected, and new members Lizzy Oudie Hugh McKay and Joe Cooke joined the council under the Indian Act.

Funeral Held For Rev. E. L. Hadley At Rossburn

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Rossburn United Church for Rev. Edgar Lawrence Hadley who died December 7 in Brooks Alberta at age 49. The service at 2 30 p m included Rev. Murray Ames and other clergy. Hadley served in the R C M P from 1938 to 1961 and later became Anglican priest at St George's in Brooks. He leaves wife Alice two sons and several relatives. Interment followed in Rossburn.

A series of eight weekly prenatal classes starts January 16 at 2 00 pm at Rossburn Health Unit covering family nutrition fetal development and labour. Fathers join the final class for a hospital tour and parent care role discussion. Register by calling Rossburn No 67 or Hospital No 14.

R G Smele was re elected as M L A for Birtle Russell in last Friday's provincial vote. He secured a greatly increased majority and carried 31 of 35 polls with a 950 vote lead pending hospital ballots.

William Pokropywny 58 Passes After Canadian Life in Rossburn

William Pokropywny of Rossburn died at District Hospital on December 13 at age 58. Born in Western Ukraine, he came to Canada in 1907 with his parents and settled on a Rossburn farming district. Survived by his mother four sisters and two brothers, funeral prayers were said at the Parish Hall Rossburn and a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church service followed by burial in the local cemetery Raginski Funeral Home Oakburn oversaw arrangements.

John A Mudry of Sandy Lake Dies at 69

John A Mudry of Sandy Lake Manitoba died December 11 at Erickson hospital aged 69. He came to Canada in 1893 and settled in Sandy Lake with wife Mary Zatylny. A laborer who worked six years at the National Park Golf Course, he is survived by wife Mary and two children Tony Winnipeg and Isabelle Bugera Sandy Lake. Funeral services were held at North Hall and St Nicholas Church with burial in the local cemetery.
