Manitoba selects Lake of the Prairies for Shellmouth reservoir
Manitoba Mines and Natural Resources Minister Leonard Evans says the Shellmouth Dam reservoir on the Assiniboine River will be named Lake of the Prairies. The name, proposed by 43 Rossburn students, was approved for submission to Saskatchewan and the Canadian place-name committee. The lake will back into the Shell River valley, serving water recreation for Asessippi Provincial Park set to open for Manitoba's centennial in 1970.

Rossburn Rural Council Holds Regular Meeting
The Rossburn Rural Municipality council met December 9 1969 in the council chambers with Reeve John Mitchell and five councilors present. They approved minutes, adopted the November 30 financial report, granted permission to a predator controller for 1969 70, deferred skating rink funding, approved a 25 dollar grant to the Children s Aid Society of Western Manitoba, passed By Law 930 on road creation and By Law 931 on tax cancellations, supported naming Lake of the Prairies, cancelled 345 20 dollars in miscellaneous accounts, allowed 60 dollars per member for Union of Manitoba Municipalities convention attendance, requested over expenditure approval for 1969 and approved bills totaling 47 095 38 dollars, then adjourned to January 1970.
