Manitoba communities rally around Seton Centre anniversary
Tremendous support marks the Seton Centre’s July opening in Carberry with a Winnipeg celebration by Seton Centre and the Manitoba Naturalist Society for the 100th anniversary of Seton’s appointment as province's first appointee. A $15,000 grant from Manitoba Department of Natural Resources was announced, aiding winter programs for all ages. The article also notes the Paulencu house, Manitoba’s lone surviving Romanian folk-house, receiving a new lease on life after relocation near the St. Elijah Pioneer Church museum. Cancer rates in Western Manitoba have risen since spring, Brandon General Hospital reports, with staff shortages and space constraints prompting calls to Health Services and Research foundations to review the situation. Officials say chemotherapy capacity may need doubling to handle rising patient load.

Roseau River Band seeks 13925 acres of crown land
The Roseau River Indian Band has asked for about 13925 acres of crown land to satisfy unfinished treaty land entitlement. The request includes 7000 acres of Turtle Mountain Provincial Park starting at the Peace Garden west boundary. Officials say bands often request more land than they ultimately receive and final settlement may take three to five years. Virden hires Patrick Thiele to run a two year Victim Services Program to aid crime and crash victims and families with RCMP collaboration and local volunteers.
