Rossburn Women’s Institute Christmas Meeting
The Rossburn Women’s Institute held its Xmas meeting on December 6 in the annex with 13 members present. They sang O Canada and the Creed, exchanged gifts, and held a social afternoon with carols and a contest won by Mrs. Lindsay and Mrs. Cormack, who also took the Jackpot. The Centennial Tea raised 30 dollars for the Centennial committee and a bountiful pot luck lunch followed. The next meeting is January 3 at 3 p.m. at Mrs. Anne McIntosh’s home, with officer elections on the agenda.

Fred Grewinsky 84 died Saturday at Rossburn Hospital. Born in the Ukraine he came to Canada in 1912 and farmed in Ruthenia and Grandview. Survived by daughter Elsie Wladyka and 4 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at Ukrainian Catholic Church Rossburn with Rev. J. Lehky officiating. Rae's Funeral Home in charge.

A Manitoba Farmers Union meeting was held on November 28 at the Oakburn National Home with over 50 attendees. Mrs. Mike Peleshok spoke on Farm Women's Week Living Today for Better Tomorrow and Vice President Ken Singleton discussed MFU's future and resolutions ahead of the December MFU convention. Sun Life’s Mr. Shoemaker and local agent S. M. Waytowich appeared as guests, a wills and estates panel followed, and delegates were elected prior to the briefing and lunch.

North Central League Opens Here Saturday
Rossburn Hornets host Birtle Intermediates in the North Central Hockey League opener at Rossburn Arena Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. The team returns after several years away and is backed by Chalet Walter's Foods and M. K. Construction. Next Tuesday Rossburn meets Brandon Red Caps at Reston as a league game. League teams each play a 14 game schedule this year.

The Sandy Lake community and Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Branch 184 received the A C T Plaque for the fundraiser with the Rose bowl presented Saturday night. Donations supported free diabetes blood tests and ongoing tuberculosis surveys in western Manitoba's Brandon area via the Associated Canadian Travellers.
