Speakers urge a new law spirit beyond party and race to unite provinces, bolster democratic life, and inspire a global example. A Ukrainian committee appeal raises funds, choir performances and a concert follow, ending with anthems to close.
A. E. Powley of Canadan Broadcasting Corps overseas says inflation has wrecked currency in Europe, with cigarettes becoming the common price unit in Holland. He notes cigarette value at about one guilder and explains how inflation drives higher prices, fueling craving for smokes after liberation.
The second regional convention of the Canadian Ukrainian Committee met at Oakburn to raise funds for the Ukrainian Canadian Relief Fund aiding refugees in Western Europe. Speaker Rev N W Fedak urged unity and generous aid as Ukrainians flee Soviet oppression. Rev Dr Kushnir and others addressed the audience of about 500. the event included a supper and evening session chaired by J N Manedziuk.
