Manitoba to sworn in as 20th lieutenant governor
Dr. George Johnson, a Manitoba physician with a long public service record in health and education, will be sworn in as the province’s 20th lieutenant governor December 12 at 2 P.M. in the Legislative Building. The ceremony will be presided over by Chief Justice Alfred M. Mannin.

Park L.G.D. appoints councillor for Ward 2 vacancy
The Local Government District of Park held its inaugural meeting in Onanole on November 5 with Councillors Langevin Zemliak Malchuk Ewasiuk LeGrange Novalkowski and Administrator Yakielashek. Eugene Starchuk was appointed councillor for Ward 2 for 1986 1989 after no nomination occurred for Ward 2. Ted Malchuk was named Deputy Reeve and several appointments to boards and committees followed for 1986 87. By law 714 to appoint five guardians for 1987 was passed and the Board of Revision members were named. Council also discussed voting procedures and indemnity matters.

Two appointments named to Crop Insurance Tribunal in Manitoba
Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski announced two appointments to the Crop Insurance Act Appeal Tribunal. Lawrence Szwaluk of Shoal Lake becomes chair, succeeding Arthur Nicholson, with Laura Henderson of Minitonas replacing Charles Williams. Nicholson and Williams had served since 1982. Szwaluk, a longtime mixed farmer, serves on local farm and credit unions boards. Henderson is vice president of the Manitoba Swine Breeders Association and active in 4-H and farming. The tribunal settles disputes between farmers and the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation, handling claim adjustments and final judgments.
