First Grain Delivered In District On August 23
Three days earlier than last year the first grain in the district arrived on Thursday August 23 at Birdtail U.G.G. elevator. Adolph Kostesky delivered oats graded No 2 feed. Alex Cleland also delivered No 2 feed oats to the same elevator this week. Harvesting delayed by poor weather but will ramp up as conditions improve. Harris Huston combined barley for Herb Taylor weighing 50 lbs per bushel, ranking as malting potential when dry.

Death of Mrs Katie Lapka in Silver Creek district
Mrs Katie Lapka died after a three week illness on August 18 at Sacred Heart Hospital Russell. Born in Ukraine 75 years ago she came to Canada in 1901 and lived in Silver Creek municipality. Survived by two sons John and Pete of Silverton and seven daughters including Stella Lapka Mie Nowosad Matt Malaniuk and others. 16 grandchildren. Funeral from Angusville to Lakedale church officiated by Father W Lutskiew. Pallbearers were nephews Pete Mike Wasy Lapka Pete Horace Walko and Walter Nowosad.

July sees 27 deaths and 326 injuries in Manitoba, down from June 31 and 324 respectively. Seven month totals rise to 165 deaths and 2,036 injuries, with metal work and retail stores reporting many injuries.
