Waterfowl season opens at noon local time with a longer season across Manitoba districts and an increased daily bag of two ducks. Regulations permit magazines plugged to hold maximum two shells and limit wood ducks and export limits to the U.S. Officials provide season dates, bag limits, and license fees for residents and nonresidents.

M Klym 20 of Rossburn Manitoba moved to No 30 Air Material Base Langar England to serve as a driver per RCAF Air Transport Command. The voyage aboard the steamship Scythia left Quebec City on August 12 and lasted about five days. His parents Mr and Mrs Thos Klym live in Rossburn.

Caterers Picnic Draws Large Crowd at Silver Beach
A large crowd attended the first annual Caterers Picnic at Silver Beach on Monday August 17 sponsored by the Retail Merchants Association. East merchants beat West in softball. Angusville ladies defeated a Russell Rossburn team. Free ice cream and boat rides, kids races, and a charity ham raffle to Save the Children Fund were enjoyed, with community singing in the evening.

Flares To Be Dropped In Manitoba Areas
Major L M Sebert of the Army Survey Establishment travels to Headquarters Prairie Command to arrange flare triangulation stations across Southern Manitoba. About 150 flares of 350000 candle power will be dropped starting August 18 1953 weather permitting, each descending by parachute and visible for four minutes at 150 miles before burning out. A Mitchell bomber from 406 Aux Squadron RCAF will drop them from 15000 feet. The operation aims to locate a concrete pier marker from a 1945 moon eclipse study near Pine River in relation to the North American Datum, with US Army gear supplying equipment. Flares will be visible in Winnipeg Portage la Prairie Brandon Clear Lake Steep Rock Dauphin Rossburn and nearby areas.
