Manitoba Rural Municipalities Get $26.2 Million Tax Sharing
Manitoba rural municipalities will receive 26.2 million in provincial municipal tax sharing payments this month. Finance Minister Eric Stefanson and Rural Development Minister Len Derkach announced the program, noting it supports rural services and growth. Total PMTS includes RCMP policing payments of 24.78 and 99.13 per capita for direct policing. With Winnipeg, Manitoba municipal governments total 61.8 million, up 1.7 million from last year.

Bear and other wildlife surprise rural residents near Watson
A family awoke to a large black bear at their window near Watson, while a nearby farm reported a bear chased up a tree and shot due to proximity to children. Wildlife officers attribute most encounters to human behavior and trash, with other incidents including a skunk bite in Baldur.

RCMP Search For Missing Laura Bone After Abduction
RCMP issue a warrant for a 34 year old man accused of abducting 15 year old Laura Marie Bone from Keeseekoowen First Nation on July 17. They fled toward the U S border at International Falls on July 21 and Laura disappeared at a Kenora McDonalds on July 24 while with Child and Family Services. Police seek tips and ask anyone with information to contact Elphinstone RCMP at 6252138.

Rural governments to receive VLT revenue share BNA reform
Local officials including Mr Stefanson and Mr Derkach tout rural towns getting 10 percent of VLT revenues on a per capita basis with a $5,000 base and a $12.33 per capita payment.
