The Parkland Harvest Festival at Rossburn and Rossman Lake drew about 5 000 over Saturday and Sunday. Events included a teen dance, a large parade with floats and historic vehicles, fair displays, and senior baseball with Grandview winning 6 4 over Angusville.
Julien Fradette and Russell representing the Pelly Trail Division Association will join about 100 Manitoba teachers at the 13th annual professional seminar of The Manitoba Teachers' Society at Brandon University from August 20 to 24.
Gymkhana events drew entrants from Oakburn Herod Birtle and Rossburn. Winners included Dan Shwaluk Oakburn in Sr Pole Bending and Randle Jennings Rossburn Jr Pole Bending, Fred Dickson Herod Sr Barrel Race, Doug Reddaway Rossburn Jr Barrel Race, Ray Reddaway Rossburn Sr Flag Race, Robert Jennings and Ray Reddaway Open Cow Hide Race, Theodore Shwaluk Oakburn Open Potato Race and more with multiple runners up.
Jim Kilmister of Rossburn won the Manitoba Sand Greens Golf Championship at Rossman Lake Golf Course with 69. Mort Orr of Binscarth was runner up at 70. The event drew 77 Men's Open entrants, 23 Seniors, and 21 Ladies, with multiple flight prizes and countback decisions across categories.
An open horseshoe tournament held Sunday afternoon produced winners in multiple divisions. Doubles A Side went to Butch Fleury and Wally Fleury of St. Lazare, Doubles B Side to John and Ivan Cre rar, Singles A Side to Butch Fleury, and Singles B Side to Wally Fleury.
