Rossburn Council approves borrowing for 1962 and revises electors
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met August 14 1962 in the Cornel Chambers with Reeve Alex Cleland and five councillors present. They adopted the July financial report, revised the 1962 electors list, approved the Grasshopper Control Assistance Policy, and passed By Law No 867 authorizing a 25000 loan from Toronto Dominion Bank. The meeting adjourned to reconvene September 11 1962.

Haying Bee Helps Ill Marco Neighbor on Farm
On July 30 on Joe Zimmerman’s Marco farm a community haying bee gathered to bale hay for the ill man. Peter Leschasin and Ivan Hlagy provided and operated machinery with help from John and Norman Leschasin. Participants included Paul Ternowski John Chuhay Tom Charney Mike H ersak Roy Budz Paul Zimmerman Mike Zimmerman John Shastko and Mrs Paul Zimmerman Mrs Roy Budz and Mrs Mike Zimmerman who organized meals. The neighbors’ act is gratefully noted and wished for a speedy recovery.

The death of Mrs Helen Hasiuk nee Helen Hryciuk occurred suddenly on Friday July 27 in Tompkins Sask. Born April 2 1911 in Rossburn Manitoba she married Roy Hasiuk in 1935 and lived in Mears district Rossburn Winnipeg and finally 710 Garfield St Winnipeg where she resided until her death. Survived by husband Roy son Ernest her father Andrew Hryciuk five sisters and three brothers. Prayers held August 1 at St Josaph Ukrainian Catholic Church and Requiem High Mass August 2. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Zawidoski Funeral Chapel in charge.

Ukrainian To Be Optional Subject In Local Collegiates
The Board of Trustees reports approval from the Department of Education to offer Ukrainian language as an optional Grade IX subject in Rossourn Oakburn and Angusville Collegiate in 1962. If successful, the program may expand to Grades X XI and XII. students seeking university admission must still take a language such as French German or Latin in Grade IX alongside Ukrainian.

Severe hail storm devastates crops near Rossburn area
Reported as one of the area’s most damaging hail crowds struck east and north of Rossburn, with main impact near No 45 Highway and towards Olha. Damage extended six miles north of Sandy Lake, with hail larger than golf balls and fields littered by broken vegetation. Transport records note this as the 24th thunderstorm of summer, moisture total near a possible record 15.79 inches since April 1.
