Prairie Herd Retention Plan Reached Across Provinces
Manitoba Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski announces a regional Herd Retention Program to aid prairie livestock producers facing severe drought. Eligible Manitoba farmers in the southwest drought area will receive 48 dollars per breeding cow and six dollars per breeding ewe or nanny, with 85 percent of eligible stock used for calculation, and a 75 percent retention requirement through April 1985. The plan is cost shared with the federal government and will be administered province by province.
