Hailstorms Aug 5 hit the province with the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corp estimating claims near 1 million. King George School area and Vista to Leech suffered the heaviest damage with fields crushed and some farms reporting 40 to 60 percent loss. one farmer described nearby plots wiped out across the road.

Parkland Harvest Festival draws large crowd in Rossburn
About 2000 people attended over the August weekend with 950 on Saturday and 1050 on Sunday. The festival opened Friday with a parade and concert. A first time horse pull was added but track slickness after overnight rain caused a relocation. Tex the Trained Steer drew crowds and multiple racing events showcased Quarter Horse Thoroughbred and Appaloosa races. A rodeo dance, pony chuckwagon and chariot races plus a Thoroughbred chariot race highlighted the weekend. Weather aided attendance.

Waddells to Take Over Shoal Lake Vet Practice
The Shoal Lake and District Veterinary Board approved the sale of Don Finley’s practice on Aug 4. Bruce and Janice Waddell, currently in Portage la Prairie, will move into the clinic and begin duties on Sept 1. They will provide 24 hour service with one on road vehicle initially and a Dauphin vet relieving every third weekend.

Parkland Harvest Festival Parade Draws Entries from Nearby Towns
The Parkland Harvest Festival weekend featured a parade with 35 entries from Brandon, Birtle, Russell, Shoal Lake, Rossburn and surrounding areas starting Friday at 1 p m. Awards included Most Attractive Float Rossburn Credit Union and Most Original Float Waywayseepagoo float. Entertainment was provided by Bill and Sue On Hillman of Strathclair and the Rodeo Queen crowning with Elizabeth Melnyk as MC.
