William Shaw long respected Rossburn area farmer died suddenly at home from a heart attack. Funeral service will be Friday August 13 at 2 30 PM from Rossburn United Church to Rossburn cemetery.
Ekford notes show week end visits by W Whyman to W J Bolton and Rev and Mrs Garett with Mrs Mary Collingridge, while Allan Cameron completed carpenter work on the Ekford school. Miss Zelmer Cameron visits Arthur in Ontario and Loraine Cameron stays with Mrs Clayton at Vista. A dance in Archie Cameron’s new house featured music by Joe Berchulka and Andy Yaskiew.
The Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association event at Rossburn on August 8 1948 drew about 500 attendees. Miss Lillian Kiez of Rossburn won queen, with princesses Martha Drul of Oakburn Katherine Sohynyshyn of Sandy Lake and Polly Kobluk of Angusville. Oakburn won Softball and the day’s Shield. Angusville took the sports Cup and Public Speaking Cup.
Rossburn and area residents are listed in a social notes column. families and friends travel to see relatives across Manitoba and Ontario. Wedding vows were exchanged at the Greek Catholic church in Oakburn on Saturday July 17 as Alice Hrytsak became the bride of John Peech. Rev Fornalchuk officiated with Elsie Yarysh as bridesmaid and Peter Peech as best man. Audrey Remenda of Mikado Sask flower girl and Nestor Hrytsak as flower boy. A reception for close relatives followed at the bride’s home and the Leech community welcomed the couple who will reside there on July 24.
