Canadians cut the share of personal disposable income spent on food to 16.4 percent in 1982, despite a 1.3 percent drop in real income. Statistics Canada figures show 12.4 percent of spending goes to food purchased at stores, with continued declines in grocery industry profitability.
After considerable bargaining the Westman Media Cooperative Ltd. calls a meeting for August 27 in Erickson at 2 PM. Members since July end may attend to discuss by law amendments, patronage dividends for subscribers as of August 31 1982, programming committee plans, and a status report on the cooperative. An announcement on extending services to ten communities including Rossburn and Shoal Lake will follow.
The Rossburn Village Council met July 21 in the council chambers with Mayor Louis Kurchaba and four councillors. They hired Penner and Keeler Partners Ltd for a 1486.80 study and report on repairing arena beams while approving payments to M D Butcher & Associates and Lennon Surveys, and granting permits for two properties. The meeting also notes Parkview Drive grant status and a Parks Canada public hearing on Riding Mountain Master Plan.
Collette Olyarnyk and her Limousin steer are pictured at the Rossburn 4-H Beef Club show held in July. She also displayed the same steer at the Inter-Club Show and Sale on Strathclair on July 25.
The Rossburn Silver Creek Recreation District hosted Kids on the Block at Town Hall to educate children about disabilities. Puppets The Kids Robert Mandy Mark and Ellen Jane depicted blindness deafness cerebral palsy and mental disability to show disabled kids lead normal lives.
