In a 7 0 rout at Kenton Rossburn blanked the locals until the seventh inning while Kenton pitcher Tommy Leifer exited after 4 hits and 5 runs. Barry Richards delivered his third no hit no run shutout of the playoffs, previously accomplishing the feat against Virden and Brandon.
The Rural Council met August 6 with all members present. A $25.00 grant was approved for Vista 4-H clubs. An Old Age Assistance application was approved. A resolution requested Public Works to approve relocating the east and west road through Ward One. A resolution asked Mr Gooddie of Brandon's Game and Fisheries Branch to assess beaver damage in section 11-21-25. Next meeting set for September 3.
Visitors at the J Sherritt home included Mr and Mrs Charlie Baird and Jean Baird of Winnipeg and Mr and Mrs Gueldenroth of Saginaw Michigan. Mr Dixon Stitt of Winnipeg spent the long weekend with Mrs Stitt and Lottie and other relatives. Mr and Mrs Bert Mitchell left to spend a few days in Regina.
Patricia McFarlane daughter of Mr and Mrs T H Alexander Rossburn and Harold McLaren Middlemass son of Mrs Laura Middlemass Portage la Prairie and the late T D Middlemass were married July 25 at 7 pm in Young United church Winnipeg with Rev J G Barber officiating. After reception at Lientrad Harbour the couple honeymoon in Kenora Ontario and will live at Rossburn Manitoba where the groom is assistant principal at Rossburn High School.
Former Rossburn residents Artibise and Grant with their spouses visited Rossburn on the return from Qu Appelle Valley. Emil Heckert and Evelyn Grudniske from Winnipeg planned to wed, also in Rossburn. Other guests included F. Smith of Listowel and L. Smith with daughter of Kurtzville. Elaine Klym left for nurse training at St Boniface Hospital. Sympathy sent to Mrs. Royle of Foxwarren.
Mr and Mrs N Karmazensk i spent the long weekend at the International Peace Garden and in Rugby North Dakota. Mr and Mrs Joe Kreshnski visited Dauphin and Valley River. Mr and Mrs Ed Shust attended the wedding of Ernie Kurchaba and Marie Christain in Winnipeg. Ernie Kurchaba and Marie Christain married at Ross United Church Winnipeg. Manley Karmazenuk and Viola LaRoque of Carman holiday with his parents. Mr Ivan Storczuk of Winnipeg renewed acquaintances in town.
A miscellaneous shower for Olia Borodie bride elect of August 13 was held Saturday evening July 16. Guests greeted Olia at a decorated bar, presented a corsage, and helped unwrap gifts in a school-house themed setting. A lunch followed as friends and relatives visited in Oakburn.
Mr and Mrs Roberts and children of Peace River visited in town for a few days. Reita Stitt stayed with D Leckie in MacGregor. Carson Bradley of Vancouver spent the weekend with Willis Stitt. Marlene Hamilton and a friend visited her parents WJ Hamilton. Various friends called at the Hamilton home including Olive O'Donnell and B Davis of Portage la Prairie. Vacation School starts Monday August 15 through 19 with a 25 cent donation per child requested.
At the Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co op Regional meeting on August 4 Rossburn Mr John Monkhouse spoke on today s competitive poultry industry and the need for timely marketing and evisceration. He noted truck service for low volume areas and explained egg and butterfat deductions fund advertising.
Approximately 62 dollars was realized by the Hospital Aid raffle held recently. Prize winners were Bedspread Mrs Sterling Veitch Toaster Mrs H Miller Doily Mrs Ed Shust.
The Pentecostal church hosted a week of Daily Vacation Bible School led by Miss Olive Olfrey with help from Miss Dorothy Miller and Mrs Ivar Roset. Attendance was solid and the Friday program featured choruses solos duets skit scripture reading and certificate presentations.
The Rossburn Hospital Board and staff express thanks to donors and groups including the Hospital Ladies Aid CGIT Birdtail WI United Church WA Vista WI and Rossburn W I for vegetables baked goods dairy items and flowers. Donations include money from Mrs M Checkowski and a coffee table from Leslie Andrew for the nurses residence.
Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Crowe of Winnipeg were guests of Mrs. Nona Peden on July 30. Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Palmer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Palmer and Claire Palmer left on Sunday to spend the long week end at Elm Creek. Mrs. Christina Williams of Winnipeg spent the long weekend at the S. Mitchell home. Sonja and Alice Fiel returned from Pine Falls and Winnipeg on Monday.
A daughter was born July 29 to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Twovoice of Lizard Point. A son was born July 81 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lakinski of Rossburn.
