Vivian May daughter of W. R. McLachlan and the late Mrs. McLachlan wed Harvey Dean Hamilton son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hamilton of Vista Manitoba in a July 2 ceremony at Knox United Church Brandon Rev. S H Searle officiated with Margot McQuarrie as soloist and a reception in the church parlors.
The Wayway Seecappo Pow-Wow runs Thursday through Saturday though grounds and hall work are unfinished. Local band members will assume responsibility for the event.
Over 100 take lessons in the Red Cross course at Fishing Lake under the local Game and Fish Association sponsorship. Dennis De Roo of Swan Lake instructs. Ideal weather marks early days of the program. The Rossburn Game and Fish Association thanks Peter Gluch for a sand donation for the Fishing Lake beach.
Brandon CKX TV announces an application to increase power from 19.6 kW to 100 kW and to raise tower height from 304 feet to 600 feet. The plan, estimated at 150000 dollars, aims to improve reception for distant viewers and extend coverage beyond current areas. If approved at the Board’s September meeting, installation would proceed swiftly.
Funeral services for Mervin Samuel Wowk 25 former Angusville resident drowned July seven at Elliot Lake Ontario were conducted at 2 30 p m the following day by Rev Wad. Born in Angusville he worked two years at Searle Elevator before moving to Elliot Lake where he served as shift boss in a mining mill. The body was forwarded to his parents' residence Tuesday evening for the wake.
Mr and Mrs A Cleland of Birdtail hosted forty to fifty Manitoba Flying Farmers at Fishing Lake on Sunday. Seven aircraft landed at the home strip and the rest arrived by car from Melita Neepawa Bethany Carman Homewood St Vital Norwood Decker and Fox Warren. A short meeting of the organization was held and the afternoon was spent in socializing and sharing flying experiences.
H Komhyr of Rossburn won the Russell High School contract with a bid just over 206000. Change orders may reduce the total by several thousand dollars accepted by the contractor. Inglis contract went to J Rutar Russell and Elphinstone to Sigurdson's of Minnedosa with bids near 108000 each to be scaled down by changeovers. Rossburn addition tenders to be opened September 8.
Nick Marchiuk, an Angusville resident who came to Canada in 1912, died at his home aged 79. He farmed and worked for CNR until 1944, married Mary Kaban in 1920, and lived on a farm north of Angusville. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Ukr. Greek Catholic Church, with burial in the local cemetery. Pallbearers included Mike Sawdyshyn and Harris Barneski. He is survived by his wife Mary, a son Mike, and a daughter Anne Melnyk of Toronto.
Dell of Binscarth participates in United Church service and burial in the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox cemetery as reported in continued notes on Page Eight.
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held a special meeting August 2 in the council chambers. Reeve M J Sotas and Councillors Morley Brown Wm Myra Mike Pawluk and Mike Babbie attended. The council declared the East of Sec 12 13 21 25 area the most urgent for 1960 grants and instructed the Municipal Engineer to report. It also agreed 1961 grants, if any, be split between Ward One and Ward Four, and adjourned to the next regular meeting.
Obituary notice for Thomas Maluk age 69 of Sandy Lake. Born in Western Ukraine he moved to Winnipeg to work for the CPR and later ran a general store with Mr Didyk for 41 years. He died at Erickson Hospital and is survived by wife Rosie two sons Eugene and Donald and two daughters Lisha and Stella. Funeral services were held at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church with burial at the local cemetery. Raginski Funeral Home of Oakburn arranged the services.
