The Rossburn Village Council met in the council chambers on April 21 with May or Earl Moffat and four councillors present. Minutes and financial and constable reports were adopted. Merchants petitioned to move Saturday closing from 11 to 10 pm. amendment approved. Parking spot reserved for police by the building. Two building permits approved. Bills paid. Adjourned to May 19, 1959 at 8 pm.

Rossburn Arena Sees Major Improvements Under Winter Works
The Memorial Arena in Rossburn gains extensive upgrades using salvaged lumber from the old Rossburn school. The project provides local employment, expands seating and facilities, and improves heating with siding from the school. The ceiling, stairs, second floor arch, lunch area relocation, and new windows enhance comfort for hockey games and community events.

Melnyk Awarded Rural Gravel Contract 1959
The R. M. of Rossburn council held a special meeting to consider gravel tender bids for the 1959 season. Reeve and three councillors heard tenders from Frank Melnyk of Rossburn and Andy Onafreichuk of Inglis. Melnyk’s bid was accepted to do travelling gravel work for the municipality in 1959.

Rossburn women raise 107.62 for cancer society drive
The Rossburn Women’s Institute completed a district canvass and Tag Day on April 25 to fund the Canadian Cancer Society. Total collected was 107.62 with volunteers led by Mrs. A McIntosh and Mrs. M Armstrong among others. Rossburn and district praise the community’s strong support.

Death of Robert S. Wilson in Saskatoon
Saskatoon resident Robert S Wilson aged 76 died Tuesday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Saskatoon Funeral Home Chapel. He was born in Perth County Ontario and moved west with his family to Rossburn Manitoba before settling in Saskatoon. Surviving are his widow Grace one daughter Grace Ford Saskatoon three sons Gerald Calgary Oren Saskatoon and Eric Detroit two sisters one granddaughter six grandsons and two great grandchildren. Burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Couple Farewelled Prior To Departure
About 75 attended a surprise party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Andrew for Mr. and Mrs. A Mitchell who are moving to Brandon. Mrs. Bert Mitchell read the address as the couple received a purse of money a coffee table and a hostess chair presented by Ross Taylor Norma and Norman Andrew and Bill Mitchell. The couple thanked guests and the song For They Are Jolly Good Fellows was sung. Wendell Cleland played piano accordion and lunch was served.

Funeral Rites Held For Joseph Blaskiewicz
Joseph Blaskiewicz died aged 65 at Sacred Heart Hospital Russell after a long illness. His funeral at St Theresa Roman Catholic Church featured multiple priests and a high mass with interment at the Rossburn RC cemetery. He is survived by his wife Agnes, daughter Josephine, sisters Sophie and Mary, and brothers John Frank and Kasimir in Poland. Pallbearers included Ed Shust Knox Shust Mike Shamray Anton Blaskiewicz Alex Fedoruk and Joe Matheson. He was born in Krasne Australia in 1894 and came to Canada in 1913.

Mike Sotas Named At CCF Convention In Angusville
A record crowd of 160 attended the CCF nominating convention at Angusville Hall on Friday April 24th where Mike Sotas a Rossburn district farmer and former federal and provincial candidate was unanimously elected on the motion of Mrs Peden of Rossburn and Mr Alex Kalyniuk of Angusville Mr Sotas pledged a vigorous campaign. Mr Lloyd Stinson provincial leader explained the budget dispute saying conservatives want to pass the budget without debating department estimates and Premier called it a want of confidence motion.
