Nichola Semaniuk died at 2 10 am Monday in his Mears home. Funeral held April 27 at the Greek Catholic Church in Mears. Born in West Ukraine in March 1875 he came to Canada in 1919 and settled in Rossburn Municipality before moving to Mears to farm. Survived by wife Anne and several sons and five daughters.
Thomas Carl Buchanan, 47, of Uranium City Saskatchewan and formerly of Regina, died Wednesday in Uranium City. Born Rossburn Manitoba he worked as a cook for Sabine-Nesbett Mines since August and served in the RCA overseas 1941-1945. Survived by daughter Carol Regina, seven sisters and three brothers. Funeral Monday 1:30 pm Speers funeral home Archdeacon Ashley and Rev North officiating burial Soldiers Plot Regina cemetery.

Rossburn and district reports show the highest April moisture in Manitoba. By Tuesday the area had 1.63 inches, ahead of Russell at 1.42 inches and other observed points such as Ekabel and Roam area around 1.4 inches.
Mr and Mrs John Bell and Mrs M Turnbull drove a truck load of sheep to Neepawa on Monday April 18 and stayed with Mr and Mrs W J Ferguson. They returned Tuesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Mike Halack are on holidays traveling by the CNR to Winnipeg and Fort William to visit relatives. Miss Sylvia Wolwatz of Rosburn visited town renewing school pals. Joe Semochko and family returned from the West Coast where they spent winter in New Westminster. Bert Penonzek went to Winnipeg with brother in law Mike Gallant. Arthur Turnbull returned from Sherridan. Mr and Mrs C Switzer visited Oakburn and then Bill Drosdosky’s Easter. Ukrainian Easter Monday with Ray mond Mazur. Weather comment.
Mrs Michael Kozyk and child ren of Brandon visited Oakburn over the weekend. Miss Steffie Lazaruk returned to Provincial Normal School at Winnipeg after a week of practise teaching at Harrower school Menzie. Proceeds from Jack Randalls Auction lunch totaled about 83 55 dollars. Joyce Smith and Larry Kier returned to Normal School after a weeks practise teaching at Oakburn School. Mr Walter Mychalyshyn of Wynyard visited relatives for a few days.
The first dose reached 83 six and seven year olds on April 21. The second dose will wait four weeks. Under new plans eight year olds will be vaccinated too. Six and seven year olds receive two doses at the first clinics, eight year olds at the later clinics. Signed consent required for all 6 7 and 8 year olds. Do not deprive children of protection from polio.
Rev Hesslop of Elphin stone Reserve and Mr Pollock of Waywaysee Caype were stranded with engine trouble on a desert highway near Winnipeg when a helicopter landed. A young soldier stepped out asking if there was anything they could do to help.
Peter Maduke rode a young horse along the road to meet a snowplow when the animal stampeded. He was thrown and knocked unconscious, returning to bed for five days. The horse waited nearby and the rider hopes to be better prepared for the Calgary Stampede.
On April 21 the ladies of Vista formed a Women’s Institute at Mrs. Mackedenski’s home with fifteen present. Lorraine Houck from Extension Service assisted installation of officers. Six directors named and officers elected include President Joan Baker and Vice President Wilma Nichol. Next meeting set for May 12 at 2 pm at Mrs. Nettie Hyrsak’s home.
Allan Elvers aged 68 died Sunday April 24 after a lengthy illness. Born in Hamburg Germany in 1887 he came to Canada in 1907 and farmed in the Rossburn district before moving to Rossburn in 1949 to serve as County Court Clerk. Funeral was held Tuesday April 26 at the Rossburn Pentecostal Church with interment in Rossburn Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Mary three daughters Mrs Nancy Andrew Miss Eileen Elvers Mrs Nellie Brown and three sons Otto John William and a predeceased James. Grandchildren seven.
Congratulations spread for John Coughlan of Hamiota as he is ordained into the Pentecostal ministry marking a new chapter in his religious service.
About 45 attendees enjoyed an evening of planned dancing hosted by the Rossburn Sr square Dance Club on Thursday April 21. Lunch sales financed future dances for both Sr and high school clubs, planned for May 12 and June 2.
