PREPARE FOR V DAY CELEBRATIONS IN ROSSBURN AREA

Rossburn and District Board of Trade sponsors a town wide V Day event with store closures. A community service of praise and worship will be held at the Agricultural grounds weather permitting, else in the town hall. Schools plan parades with flags. churches to be represented by clergy. If news arrives before 9 am the day is a holiday. if after, the following day is observed.

CN Railways Mobilized Huge War Effort in World War II

A CN annual report supplement notes from Sept 1929 to Dec 31, 1944 the railway system was the largest single Canadian industry supporting the war. It transported over 132 million passengers and 423 million tons of freight, traveled 330 million freight and passenger miles, moved 10 billion car miles, and ran 6540 special trains for war workers and four million troops.

With about 97 085 staff, wages totaled 967.5 million. Twenty thousand employees joined the armed forces. 562 died and over 100 were decorated. Canadian Nations and staff subscribed nearly 14 million to Victory Loans and War Savings Certificates.
