80th Birthday Celebration for J. D. Black
A gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Hamilton on April 12 honored J. D. Black of Hamidta for his 80th birthday. Attendees included Mrs. Black, son Douglas, and many relatives from Oakner Brandon Rossburn and other areas plus 19 grandchildren. A wrist watch and a bouquet of red roses were given by the family and grandchildren. One daughter in Halifax could not attend.

Pohanayko Stephen 73 Dies After Long Illness
Stephen Pohanayko died at 73 following a lengthy illness after 18 months in hospital. Born in Austria Western Ukraine he came to Canada in 1913 and settled around Oakburn Manitoba later residing in Brandon. Survived by wife Martha two sons Peter and Mike two daughters Rose and Anne six grandchildren. Funeral services held at Ukrainian Greek Catholic church Oakburn with Rev J Lehky. Pallbearers named. Brockie Donovan Brandon handled arrangements.

Rossburn Council Adopts Revised 1963 Business Roll
The Rossburn Village Council held a Court of Revision and regular meeting on April 16 1963. Five complaints were sustained pending year end adjustments. The minutes, financial report for March 1963 and several by laws including tax levies were approved. The council extended Health Unit boundaries to include Shellmouth and approved road and patrol costs. The constable report was accepted and the meeting adjourned to May 21 1963.

Forty one Manitoba girls earned an Award of Merit for their entries in the Five Roses Young Canada Bake-Offs. Contestants submitted a favorite recipe and answered a six question questionnaire to test baking knowledge. Shirley Gill of Strathclair was named regional winner.

Local Visitors Spend Weekend with Area Families
